No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Haha complaining that he spent 30 minutes under conventional drives trying to get somewhere and didn't make any appreciable progress.

This game is going to be a real learning experience for a lot of people about astronomical scale :)

I didn't see the stream personally, but I wasn't aware he was attempting to reach it on impulse drive? I'm quite aware of the unfathomable distance between interstellar objects. Can you not look in the direction of an object and simply warp there, or can you only warp to points of interest via the galaxy map?

The universe requires no files per say he said because its procedural generated so its created with maths so gbs of data on dvd or whatever makes no difference to the universe in the game as it will not require any files to make. Murrys words not mine.

Which is kinda true because david from elite did the same thing he procedural generated a universe on a floppy disc remember back in the 80s.

The original Elite only used something like 22KB and Elite Dangerous is 7GB or there about so yeah.

So with that said a patch of a few hundred MB could make a massive difference.

It's a little different in No Man's Sky in that the procedural world is filled out with predefined assets, with the procedural algorithms doing all kinds of fancy blending and morphing to produce the end product.

Probably some textures and foliage is purely procedurally generated, but pretty sure most of the lifeforms consist of static components.

Well, stalking this thread isnt enough anymore for me :D
Im interested ;)
Avoiding streams tho.
Where is cheapest place to get it now?

Get it off Steam for £39.99. If for whatever reason you don't like it, get a refund (providing you play less than 2hrs).

If you do like it, get a refund then purchase it elsewhere cheaper?

That's my plan anyway.

I think the pre-order ship is a bit of a con. From what I've been reading ships are only cosmetic and it's the modules/upgrade that make the difference. They also seem pretty disposable :P

i don't understand pre-ordering any game. What does it actually get you? Developers are laughing these days, ppl justy willingly throwing money at products left right and centre. Personally I think pre-ordering games is actually the reason why so many games now are alphas, betas, and flatout broken on release. Wish everyone would do themselves and the rest of us a favour and stop pre-ordering games. You're all going to get the game anyway, so just buy it after launch, listen to known reviewers first and then gauge...don't line the pockets of these people until you know the product is actually working and is said to be what has been promised first.

I only pre-order certain titles/developers these days. A lot of it is to do with collectors editions, and/or hassle free.

I agree with you for the most part but there are certain exceptions. The only game I have pre-ordered in the last 3 years was GTA5. I did that because it had been out already on other platforms for 18 months or so and was exceptionally highly rated.

This game I am considering just because of a reason you said, I KNOW I will buy it so why not just book my part in that now? They don't get more money because I pre-ordered it a week before it comes out, they get the same.
