No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Does anyone actually believe they are just doing the marketing?

Yeah it's pretty clear they are pulling all the strings behind the scenes. Making sure the PS4 release is a few days before PC then the poor dev has to come out with some BS about needing a few days extra for monitor support for PCs :D

For some people (like me) 21:9 support out of the box is a great thing

To be fair, he's in the state of early initial hype and excitement. Everything is amazing zomg etc etc. Spin the coin, use the same screenshots and write things like went to another baron planet, few animals, climbed some mountains, saw some ships but couldn't fly them, went to another planet, saw a structure couldn't do anything with it, tried to fly to another planet but couldn't get there etc etc and the response is totally different.

I'd still say as much as you want this game, like myself, just be patient. Sony is blanketing YouTube and media sites for a reason.....early reports have been massively negative that's all. Just hold off and wait and see how things pan out at release with reviews and trustable YouTube videos.

You get nothing different If you pre-ordered now to buying on the 12th or 13th.

Waiting on genuine player reviews anything else is marketing hype. On console this is big deal being squeezed into limited hardware but on PC its more of the same. :(

I fear its going to be like so many other games looks pretty then after 2-3 hours you have effectively done everything & are just left with a massive grind to the centre.

One thing which is a little underhand the dev originally set the price way lower then once Sony got involved it became a £39.99 title  & that 21:9 excuse about not even owning a 21:9 monitor in the studio (they cost what £150 nowadays!) is more of a sign the limited resource indie dev never had anywhere near enough budget to fulfill their original vision.

Being that Sony seemingly plied them with money and you don't get many 21:9 TV's I don't think it has anything to do with limited resources.

ive been watching a live stream on yt. looks good apart from one thing: the flight gameplay seems extraordinarily dumbed down (coming from a game like Elite: Dangerous flight model) And i dont think i could put up with that.

Trying to read as little as possible about this game so I can make my own mind up. Will be buying on the 12th from Steam (2 hour refund in mind if I don't like it). Looking forward to it :)

Most likely deal is simply that Sony offered to provide marketing resources if they kept it a PS4 console exclusive. They are still a small team (15 I believe), there's no reason to believe they are are swimming in money beyond actual sales.

Elite Dangerous is categorized as a sim, by which you're confined to your ship, save for some very limited planetary exploration. Sure, there are similarities owing to the genre, but No Man's Sky has never been marketed as a sim. You can't expect intricate vehicle mechanics, in-depth combat, or accurate interstellar phenomena. Think of the game as a jack of all trades but a master of none. ;)
