North Korea

It's a crime against humanity not to intervene in North Korea. Disgusts me that the statues quo has been kept for so many years and nothing is being done.

A whole nation brainwashed from birth, taught nothing but lies and propaganda. It's the modern day Nazi Germany and nothing is being done about it.

Leaving it for so long is only going to make things worst in the long run.

How many lives do you think should be spent to change the status quo? Honest question. What would your limit be?

Nate

No one can ever know for sure but im pretty sure hundreds of thousands have died through the hands of the north korean regime since the late 50's if not millions. The country will either collapse through starvation or a revolution which will further push up the body count.

Honest question, how many people would you allow to die before doing something?

The country will either collapse through starvation or a revolution which will further push up the body count.

I don't think it will, they been staving for decades, lack of food is normal for them, they don't know anything better, even the food aid they get from other countries they think it's from dear best leader.

Like that women said in the video, they don't even have words for liberty, freedom and they never heard of "human rights", the people themselves, I don't think they will ever revolt.

The military elite is our best hope, but it seems one or two get executed every so often, even family members goes missing and that if the coup fails, they, their entire family will be killed or sent to a death camp.

I can't see the US trying anything. They tried during the Korean war and got held to a stalemate by Chinese backed North Korea.

China won't invade because it's a fellow communist country and offers a buffer between US backed South Korea. The US won't invade because China would defend North Korea.

That time of year again already? about once a year this happens.
As someone who lived in South Korea for what 3 years in total? The looney to the north making his mouth go barely even registered by the time I left. it did however used to scare the hell out of my mum who would be on the phone asking if id been nuked yet.

China seem to be getting a bit fed up with them but not sure what China would do - doesn't seem like they are interested in direct or indirect action.

We live in a world in which wars wouldn't be fought with huge ground invasions.. NK and the regime would be taken down by specialist teams if anything. no one will be conscripted to go to war with them..

A conventional war would be a rather different situation these days, those Chinese hoards they had to deal with back then could be wiped out with the airpower and artillery resources we have now.

A nation that has a crazy leader with threats that are all words, fixing the media, not listening to the rest of the world, poor relations with their southern neighbour, threatening military action at the drop of a hat and for some bizarre reason their people love him... I'm glad NK has nuclear missiles to deter current action from an unstable America.

The people don't have a clue, their brainwashed from a young age, no outside influence and they believe without him there will be no food. They have no idea how the rest of us live. It's a crying shame.

What and China don't have these resources too?

I'm not sure what China stand to benefit from helping out NK, apart from the control of the area.

Highly unlikely they'd get air superiority.

I agree, but they most definitely have Ground to Air defence, which would stop America (etc) from wiping out hoards. China have the 2nd highest military budget, along with nearly 3000 planes in their air force. Although not a patch on America, they aren't actively using them anywhere unlike America. Obviously you have S.Korea to add in their. China is also geographically closer. I can't see how, if China do feel like getting involved, how they wouldn't have the upper hand really. It'll be Vietnam all over again. Also we won't be getting involved in this, or I bloody hope not.

Iraq had air defence too... didn't stop the USAF...

And anyway it isn't going to do much to prevent the use of MLRS either! I don't think they're likely to try any human wave type stuff these days, was only really in the beginning last time - and even back then US/UK artillery was a big problem for them - these days an artillery observer can take out an entire 1km grid square in one go if needed.

The entire North Korea situation confuses me. It is really a relic of the Cold War that has no place in the world. They are more communist than China for Pete's sake.

IMO, it's all in China's hands, and the reasons the NK regime is allowed to live is purely geopolitical, and not even ideological anymore. China doesn't want a united Korea for whatever reason (despite the ridiculous amount of economic trade that could benefit both), China could participate in the reconstruction of NK, their nuclear program would be dismantled, and it's not like the US would need to stick around, unless they consider China the actual problem.

So, are you a problem, China? Do you have any designs south of your borders? Korean War, part 2?

My quote was about the US, not NK ;)
