I just find it hilarious when we turn a blind eye to these backwards nations (assuming the story is true, but even if it isn't - in much of the world this kind of thing happens all the time) as long as they play ball with us economically.

Care to explain what is so backwards about them? And which ones exactly are backward?
Pretty backwards putting an innocent woman in prison for being raped.
If the story is true, lets go with the enslavement and dehumanising of women in society to start with. Then lets move onto the systematic abuse and targeting of humans with different view points, considerable in some certain middle east countries where ethnic minority groups are targeted.
Anyway back on the subject, if true it is not the first time that I have heard of a similar situations.
You can pick just about any Middle Eastern Muslim country for examples of abuse, Saudi Arabia is the most hideous of the lot, they still behead women for Witchcraft FFS
Note that women are usually the victims, as each of these countries have a blatantly misogynistic culture (which one could argue as derived directly from a clearly misogynistic religion)
Africa splits down into various Islamist groups where beheading, raping, maiming and burning of homosexuals, Christians and basically anybody they don't like is a weekly occurrence.
South East Asia, much the same thing again.
UK, oh we never get anything like honour killings or forced marriages in the UK because that would be racist.
Sweden, oh no rapes ever happen there as that would be racist.
Nothing backwards about women getting lashes for being raped.
Next thing they'll be letting the silly bints drive....
It's OK, the Saudis are very keen to talk about Women in Society, here's one of their conferences on the subject.
Maybe in two hundred years time they will invite some women along too...

on a serious note, not 100% on wether or not I believe this. these kinds of horror stories crop up all the time, urban myths or is just something that does happen all the time?

To be fair, they at least all turned up in dresses. Although must have been gutting to arrive and realise they ALL wearing the same one!

That would certainly make life easier than trying to brew up homemade explosives in my kitchen and accidentally taking out half of Birmingham in the process!! (not that that would necessarily be a bad thing either...)
