NVIDIA 4000 Series

I have been Nvidia for nearly a decade and would prefer to stick with what i know but...

A: From experience i know the problems with 8GB cards, i wouldn't even want a 10GB card and...
B: The pricing is insane, we are not crypto miners, we don't buy to generate free money out of them, who indecently don't need more than 8GB do they? But error correcting memory is useful, not so much for gamers though because it hides high wear problems with the memory, unless you performance test them.
Do you give a crap about gamers or not? Nvidia? because it looks very much not.

The problem is that I am not sure we count. What really counts are the masses! The people who buy products without really knowing what they buy. I guess the message will slowly get out there that graphics cards are poor value but that may well take time.

And no, they clearly don't care at all. They just want to screw every last penny they can out of gamers.

I saw a MLID video the other day and he was stating that sales are very bad. That was based on retail sales in the US but he didnt mention the German retailer as it was going against what he saw in the US.
I wouldn't be paying that much for a card with a 192bit memory bus thats for sure!

Looking at 6800xts on OcUK, prices have gone up again. £650 if you want a two year+ old card now. Gibbo, Jensen and Lisa really like to shaft us this gen

An absolute joke.

Just had a look around the internet shelves, they are looking very fully and stock must be getting dusty. 7900xt can be had for £880.

I want a new gpu and I've got money ready and waiting but I don't feel theres anything outt here at the moment that deserves or warrants the premium that is being asked!

Same, sat on a 3090 and the only real upgrade path with a decent enough jump in perf is a 4090 lol which i refuse to pay! Gonna sit on this through the year and see how prices fair. I can only see things coming down and not up with the way demand is right now.

Do you have any need to upgrade? I'm on a 3080 and whilst I was always planning on sitting a gen out (at least, way things are going), I'm not yet finding myself needing to. Depends on use case really.

NVIDIA doesn't have a good track record of altering prices. It's more likely they will release the 5 series cheaper if the 4 doesn't sell well.

No need yet either. Easy to abstain when the marginal improvements are commanding around a grand right now. The other thing is to let a 4090 or the ti stretch its legs it will also need a system overhaul which is going to make that cost considerably more than normal.

It all adds up to being an easy miss generation on generation upgrade. If you have a lower level card, then it's almost a case of stick or twist - Will the following gen be a correction year, or will things continue to get out of hand? Wouldn't like to guess.

Bloody hell. The 12GB thread only just got locked, but you guys just can’t help yourselves.

Let it go at least for a few weeks guys...

What a surprise..... :D

"Games will use 16gb because consoles have 16gb and developers are targetting 16gb" yet here we are, for the past what 1-2 years, console games have been sacrificing:

- ray tracing
- various graphical settings
- resolution (significantly)

Just to meet a 60 fps target... well actually going by past few releases, more like 30 fps target now and even then, we're seeing dips to 20 fps...

Exactly, the only ones who would need to be upgrading are those with high refresh high res. displays and even then, I'm not sure it's worthwhile, at least if we look at the state of games released so far and are they really worth these 1+k gpus....... Can see why some are happy to pay for 40xx gpus though tbf i.e. for dlss 3/FG to overcome cpu bottlenecks and/or **** optimised games where grunt won't overcome such issues. With recent titles, no gpu really has the grunt thus are having to rely on dlss/fsr or/and reducing settings anyway e.g. take dead space which many are referencing as a great optimised game but imo, it isn't really given graphics look a bit meh and the game is a corridor/linear based game

A 4090 just to get 60+ fps lol.....

Being super honest here, not really. There's been nothing i've played recently that even remotely struggles to the point where im thinking i need a upgrade. I only want the 4090 because its such a huge jump in performance and probably a card i could keep for 3 to 4+ years without having to do a upgrade. I've had my 3090 for over 2 years now, watercooled so another year i'd probs be looking at an upgrade especially with UE5 starts to be utilised in new games.

I'm more hoping for some decent Black Friday deals, ocuk seems to have a decent record for selling cheap gpu's during these times. I will see when the time comes, not rushing out for one now, kinda pointless unless you have absolutely need one.
