NVIDIA 4000 Series

Don't like the look of them, not very good for extreme overclocks, doesn't support the 660W BIOS, and I experienced the 110c memory temperatures with a couple of the 3090 FEs I tried. Though I know the latter is not a problem with the newer FE models. AIB all the way for me, same with the AMD cards tbf.

I agree with this. Was put off with the 3090 FE's noise, vram temps. The 4090FE is even louder than the 3090FE, so big no for me. The AIB models are so much quieter, support higher power limits, no brainer.

Since when has the 4090FE been loud?

I can barely hear mine at all.

Compared to the AIB 4090's it's much louder

As an example, my 4090 Strix is 29DB with quiet bios. 6DB difference = double the loudness (google how DB works if you don't believe me!)

Is it really worth paying Asus tax for that £380 extra ? FE are really well built don't think founders have ever been closer and how efficient 4090 is you can tweak and lower temps and power reducing fan without hardly losing performance

I understand with aib if you want benchmarks and flashing bios to push more power etc , if you just gaming does it really matter ?

Its not so much complaining but I'm my case if you have a silent computer or a really quiet room why would you not get the silent option? (MSI/Asus). If your computer already makes a decent amount of noise by all means go for the FE it's a great card.

Edit: also at 30% lowest setting it's still auditable and comparable to MSI 60%.

I undervolted 3080 Fe , without losing performance barely hear it over the case fans which is good enough for me also during gaming I wear headset anyway, on idle they don't spin

Personally don't think it makes massive difference, unless you run fans really high

Interesting that on that chart the (quiet BIOS) Suprim X is quieter than the Liquid X version (that one does have the best temps though).

Also, 35.1 dBA (FE) to 28.6 dBA is a pretty huge difference (as Dave2150 mentioned, dBA is logarithmic).

Yeah exactly, there's nothing wrong with the FE if you don't mind noise or have age related hearing loss.

There's a large group of enthusiasts, myself included, that have their PC's run as quiet as possible. My case fans run at 400RPM, increasing to ~900 only under the most challenging load conditions. A FE in this setup would be noticeably loud and annoying.

The fe putting a good bit of heat out the back of the case would if been a big advantage for me in a itx system.
My msi 4090 ventus is putting a lot of heat into my case even at 70% power limit, its manageable but toasty.

7x120mm case/radiator fans exhausts my 4090 Strix well enough. Not an ITX case though :D

Fair if you think the £380 premium is worth it , it's not for me rather spend that on something else , and just tweak as much as possible without sacrificing performance

My current card 3080fe I can barely hear it over the 9 case fans spinning at 900rpm during gaming. Real difference would probably be getting noctua case fans and AIB card

Also I play with headset mostly during gaming and during idle and general use it's not an issue

lol I remember gaming with graphics cards before 2014. Before about 2014 all high end GPUs form both brands would hit 60db or higher and yet today people are complaining about 34db

Indeed! I’ve had some loud cards back in the day. Probably why I was confused about the 1080Ti. I always thought it was quiet but people disagreed.

I think I can get it down to +230. Still expensive but I have to think of all the money I've spent on silent parts in my rig as well I.e 220 of Noctua fans + cooler etc. :)

Noise is a subjective term and some people will be bothered by it and some not. If , like others have mentioned , you have ever heard the old style blower cards then any modern card with a huge heatsink and much larger fans will sound almost silent in comparison. I have a full custom loop and was aiming for silence but as it turns out the 120mm Lian Li fans are not an abnoxious sound even at 1200rpm 50% and I do not mind them. What I did hate was the blower style squeal and thankfully those type of fans are no longer an issue.

In general I find small fan v v bad , big fan liveable. Doesnt matter the speed and total noise for me it is more to do with the pitch and the lower the frequency the better.

With Nv almost halting production for 4000 dies there are going to be stock issues and some OEM manufacturers will only take the amount of dies they are contractually obligded too. This will lead to certain models having bad stock in some regions. The margins the OEM partners can make on 4000 cards is so small they are not that interested in actually making cards , EVGA pulled out for a reason.

I haz to agree with this :)

I have better hearing than most people I know, but I have been through different stages where some builds I wanted silence and others I wanted very good airflow which meant not so silent but also not annoying loud. You just get used to it unless there is a annoying pitch or rattling.

My current case has two 200mm intakes and a 120mm exhaust fan. Plus the AIO which sucks air out the top of the case. Not silent, but not loud at all and I am happy with it :D
