NVIDIA 4000 Series

wait what! Who runs the fans at 100%. Fans are on auto, i dont know anyone who runs fans at a 100%:eek:.

I wrote "If it's whisper quiet when at 100% load (4k, RT) at 350-400W then you're very lucky or deaf :D" - which is referring to the GPU load...

There are folks with 4090 running 1080P, or 1440P, which doesn't even load the 4090 to 100% load (utilisation), of course these people will find it whisper quiet.

The same 4090 at 100% load (4k with RT), which uses 400W stock, will not be anywhere near whisper silent. If you undervolt enough to make it silent, you're nerfing the card below stock performance, so will get reduced FPS/benchmarks scores etc.

ASUS TUF & Strix are mandatory for many, as they have two HDMI 2.1 ports, without which you can't connect two OLED TV's.

The strix, Supreme etc are also much quieter than the founders edition. Founders edition is a loud card when at 100% load (4k, RT) and the fan's tend to wobble and make more noise over time.

even so I doubt the FE will run at 100% fan unless you manually do it, also you can undervolt to the point where you dont lose performance over stock
dont know who decided to go with the design with the 40 series strix the 30 series strix looked much better imo

Not quite true for 1440p, i've had mine at 99% usage near 400w and the fans did ramp up, i guess its game dependent. Couldn't tell you what speed they ran at but it defo wasn't 100% having set it at 100% to test before it near enough took off, off my desk .

If you undervolt and PL the card correctly you can get stock performance or in my case slightly better than boost clocks at much lower wattage. 2800mhz at 960mv at 200w is a sweet spot for my card as i think it is for other users too on here.

Overclocking and increasing voltage so it would clock around 3ghz netted around 5-6 fps more in most cases i found but defo not worth that 400w power draw.

Pretty much this

Why are you hung up over 100% fan speed? I never claimed either card reached that, I just said many say their card is quiet, when they're not running it at 100% load (utilisation).

We're taking over the thread a bit now so I'll stop - though will say it's physically impossible to get 4090 performance @ 200W, in a game that needs 100% utilisation (whether that be 1440P, or 4k). Unless you're running on LN2 or something :D

Given the price premium of the strix surely it’s better to just go for an MSRP 4090?

Agreed. It (Nvidia 4090 FE) can be picked up for £1519 elsewhere. Cooling and looks is superior to anything except a Suprim.
I could go for a 4090, but then I will definitely need a 1000W PSU. I'm also specifically looking at the Strix because my entire build is around the ROG aesthetics.

I guess thats what we were talking about originally :p.

Don't tempt me with LN2... tried all sorts of cooling over the past 10 years, LN2 is the only one that im still abit afraid of .

You could happily run a 4090 on a 850w, the 1000w is more for leg room or future proofing more than anything else.

Thats provided you're not running silly wattage on your cpu too.

Other than the memory I'm not sure the 4090 tempts me at £1800+, I mostly game at 1400P and whilst there is a difference it's not massive. And my current plan is to sell this PC when the 5000 series come around (2025) and rebuild around that.

Why did you swap out a 3090 for a 4070ti- that’s a sidegrade with less vram if I’m not mistaken? (Please correct me if I’m wrong).
I do understand what you’re saying however in the games I play the 4070 Ti edges out the 3090 whilst remaining cool, quiet and only sipping power compared to the 3090 which is important to me :) - the performance I am more than happy with the 4070 Ti :)

There's quite a big gap between the 4090 and everything else bar the 7900xtx in most games. It's quite abit faster especially compared to last gen, it's quite a lot of gains to be had.

Wait, since when did a 4090 hit £1800+! I got the Zotac trinity at £1600 at the start of the year and that's FE pricing lol.

Just checking OcUK and the trinity is currently 1500 on OcUK too:

But yeah, 4090 has a sizeable gap above any other card, with the XTX close behind in some titles as far as raster performance goes.

I don't run my GPU fans at 100%, but case fans are set to 100%....

Case fans and AIO fans are at custom BIOS fan curve, if the CPU hits 60 degrees then they slowly ramp up, otherwise even in gaming, the fans are around 600rpm. Silent gaming is the way. GPU fans are also set to the quiet VBOIS mode so don't exceed 1100rpm.

Nvidia's class system.

Meanwhile my 2070S is still waiting for an upgrade and there's still nothing sensible to get.

Slightly used 4070Ti is an option to not give nvidia money but it's only 12gb and I have no idea what monitor I'll get, if I'll be running into vram limit soon-ish I might ad well look into a 4070. Besides, I might use it sometimes with my C2 (got a PS5 hooked to it currently) that's 4k/120hz vrr.

Not sure I want to stretch to a 4080 and a 4090 is around the price I paid for a 55" OLED + PS5:D

Should still wait, I guess?

Is the general consensus that the supposed 2025 release date for the 5000 series is rubbish, and a crafty way to encourage more people to buy the 4000s, or is it considered to be realistic?

The 4090 aside I don't think the 4000 series is intended towards people with 3000 series cards upgrading, I'm more and more convinced nVidia's intentions are (a) to condition people to higher prices which sadly seems to be working and (b) wring out the money they feel they are "owed" by people who've held on to older cards and not upgraded to recent series cards - who now have to spend a lot more to get a new GPU when they finally upgrade.

I'll be very surprised if there is no refresh or new series launched before 2025.
