NVIDIA 4000 Series

Meanwhile my 2070S is still waiting for an upgrade and there's still nothing sensible to get.

Slightly used 4070Ti is an option to not give nvidia money but it's only 12gb and I have no idea what monitor I'll get, if I'll be running into vram limit soon-ish I might ad well look into a 4070. Besides, I might use it sometimes with my C2 (got a PS5 hooked to it currently) that's 4k/120hz vrr.

Not sure I want to stretch to a 4080 and a 4090 is around the price I paid for a 55" OLED + PS5:D

Should still wait, I guess?

I would wait if you can. I mean you also have a console(s) so you should be fine.

I likely won’t be upgrading my 3080 Ti and would like to go for a 5070 or something when it comes out.

Yeah, in your case there is zero reason to upgrade, a 3080Ti will be relevant for quite a while, especially at 1440p and ultrawide (which you're on IIRC).

Finally getting something is tempting as I'd like to play stuff like Starfield, Cyberpunk, Tekken 8 etc. on PC and none of those will perform adequately on a 2070S but the PS5 does run most games I'm into very well so I'm trying to hold out.

T8 CNT ran perfectly but I'd still prefer that on PC as I don't feel like molesting the C2 with thousands of hours of huge static health bars:D

And even if, the numpties at $ony have just upped the pricing on all tiers of PS+ and even the lowest one is now 80$ a year just to play online:P

"-Quick, Starfield is releasing on Xbox! What do we do?
-I know, let's increase PS+ prices, that'll do the trick!"

If the 5000 isn't out for a while and the 4000 series remains terrible value, I can see PC gaming stagnating and my 3070 lasting a good while longer.

To be honest if I was sure of that being the case I'd buy a 4090 tomorrow to replace my 3070 though I don't need anything faster than a 3070 at the moment - with nVidia cards the best mileage really comes from buying the highest end card early and selling it just before the next line up starts to depress the second hand market.

Hard to say due to all this AI stuff. They might be telling the truth. I will assume 2025 H1. Happy with my GPU until then
:D

I can see nVidia moving from producing whole wafer loads of GPUs to it being something they use to fill in the space on wafers of accelerators, etc. and less optimisation on GPUs to get the most out of them and rather compatibility with being produced like that.

Interesting replies, thanks.

The way I see it, the 4090 isn’t seeming toooo bad… my TV is 4K and good for 120fps. 3090 can hit 90fps with most bells and whistles on, then 120fps with reduced settings if you prefer. I’m sitting around 2.5 meters away.

I think 4090 with absolutely smash it at 120fps. And at that point, really where else is there to go? We always think this and there’s always something better on the way, but I doubt we’re all going to move to 8K displays in the near future.

So part of me makes me think… why wait? But that’s the part of me that likes shiny things :D

If you are going to do it the smart money is on doing it sooner rather than later and unlike most of the rest of the line up the 4090 is an actual high end card at not too terrible price for the performance you get.

Switch 2 sounds good

Developer presentations for Switch 2 took place behind closed doors, Eurogamer understands, with partners shown tech demos of how well the system is designed to run.

One Switch 2 demo is a souped up version of Switch launch title Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Nintendo also showcased Epic’s impressive The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 tech demo – originally released to showcase the power of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021 – running on its next console.

The demo is said to have been running using Nvidia's DLSS 3.5 upscaling technology

If only nvidia could get into the next gen consoles, we would see dlss in every console game along with ray tracing evolution baby

Sounds good. Still. Won't buy a Nintendo any time soon. My Switch gathered so much dust. I am only interested in first party exclusives and they takes ages to come out.

I will just wait and buy the consoles in 5 years. Play all the games and sell it.

A PS5 + PC is the perfect combo as you get to play all the exclusives early from both sides.

No rush to play PS5 exclusives for me and only so much play time. I did grab a PS4 Pro a few years ago and had it for less than a year while I played a bunch of exclusives. But now that I know they are almost all coming to pc no need :D

After further deliberation, I’ve decided to give the 4000 series a skip and will just fully upgrade the whole system when the 5000 series lands (cpu, ram, MB, GPU). It’s plenty good enough with a 3090 at 4K, nominal returns… and I’ll avoid the ‘connector fiasco’ too.

Of course that means I’ll be subject to whatever BS the early adopters have with all of that… goddamn PSU/GPU power transients issue stuffed me last time!
