NVIDIA 4000 Series

Exactly my thoughts, they went from checkerboard rendering is bad on consoles to the best thing since sliced bread on PC and don't get me started on the fake frames too. Now PCMR Nvidia fans are crying streaming is the best thing ever... You can't make this stuff up really.

That's the thing with many in the PC gaming space, They flip flop constantly and then will make 10 paragraph long responses to why they are actually right. It's tiring.

It's only good for people that don't own a pc or want a pc or have the room for one or don't use a pc enough to justify the hardware costs. Otherwise to the true PCMR they shouldn't ever be looking at streaming.

I just see it as option. Could not give toss about PCMR. If it means I can make do with my 3080 Ti and not miss out on a must play demanding title between now and release of next gen GPU's then I will use it.

Have you tried it yourself purgatory? I cancelled my netflix, Amazon due to poor bit rate and well **** content (own the content that gets streamed via Plex so no compromises here) and geforce now ultimate is worth every penny compared to them.

Plenty of footage out there that shows the ultimate tier being very good. If you're going based on your experience with the free tier or other providers, well you shouldn't, as shown again with evidence, ultimate tier is much better.

But again, I'm not one who has these principles or cares about shady antics etc. If something provides me a good experience for my money, I couldn't care less how it is achieved.

And as TNA said, £18 for a month just to play a couple of special demanding games beats paying ££££ and sure as hell is better than the consoles which can't even maintain 30 fps at <1080p :o

I agree it's an option, but the only reason it is becoming an option is because Nvidia overnight doubled the price of the xx80 class cards and everything under it is basically the same spec of previous gen or in some cases worse for more money, basically they are forcing peoples hands into the only option and if enough people take it then hardware will always remain high prices and become a niche market again while Nvidia gets richer doing that. It's nothing more than Nvidia's next way to control PC gaming and gaming that can be used on any device threw an app on the device used. So the end of true PC gaming with real hardware.

If that is the future you want and a future where whatever you own is in the cloud and can be taken away from you at any time then good luck with that. I learned the hard way with some digital purchases that now I don't even have access too because platforms closed down or the purchases moved to new platforms that don't have all my purchases so basically slowly loosing what I purchased and have no control over it happening as they just say we don't own the rights to it or lost the rights to it blaa blaa the typical digital purchase rubbish these companies have set us up for, not even a refund was offered for the lost content, a scam basically to me or theft is another word for it. But all legal because of the small print they have in place that basically says you don't really own it and only have a user licence to it that may expire or become not available in some way..

Not interested in digital purchases unless I am willing to lose the content now, they fooled me once and not again. This streaming thing is basically Netflix and as Netflix does they change the content as the licences expire for that region or they state removed due to new content added or some other reason .. I'm not now going to go down that route with hardware in my private home, for companies that don't have data centres or server rooms and require this and want to lease it at their own risks that is fine, for me a home user while there is hardware and content exists in a physical form then I will be sticking with that, when it all goes digital and no options then well.. welcome to the new world or stopping all purchases.

So how does GFN work ? Do you have to buy games specifically from Nvidia or can you access your Steam library ?

Agreed, with the exception of your spelling of 'lose' and 'losing'. :p

Don't disagree but what are the competition doing to save us from the big bad evil nvidia?

If amd or/and intel would get their act together (well intel are doing pretty damn well tbh, making more headway than amd are imo), nvidia wouldn't be able to get away with these dodgy acts. Like I've said before, I'm not supporting nvidias pricing by buying ££££ GPU and I sure as hell am not supporting a company who isn't delivering at all for my needs/wants, what choice is there if I want to play cp 2077 with path tracing (with good performance)?

So how does GFN work ? Do you have to buy games specifically from Nvidia or can you access your Steam library ?

You just buy the games as you normally would and then launch geforce now then hit play:

Links to gamepass etc. too.

It’s not the same tho is it since with GFN you only hire Nvidias hardware and use your Steam/Ubisoft/EA library.
Or do you still buy your PC games on physical media.?

This.

Although nvidia have control over what games are and aren't added so if the game isn't on geforce now, you can't play it on geforce now, which is a problem but as mentioned, personally I only intend to use it for the very demanding title. Probably be cancelling it at the end of this month unless I get alan wake 2.

Better than paying for a 4080/90 for a handful of games. And certainly better than being stuck with s potato gpu. Well, so thru say anyway. Not tried it myself.

As long as you have interwebs! Soon we will be renting everything!

Sorry I want hardware I control not the monopolies that are selling you software and streaming, I don't even stream movies I buy 4K disks for a reason they will always be better than streaming and mine to own forever not when they decide to take my purchases away when they feel like it.

In the US whole regions of the country have internet that makes the UK look like it is superspeed!

It's the way pretty much everything is heading whether we like it or not. Every company rather have an ecosystem and have monthly payments as opposed to just a one of payment once every 1-3 years.

Only a matter of time until consoles end up being a box made just to stream games too.

The US has a real excuse though, It's flarking massive, Mainland Britain is tiny but it was Thatcher that severely messed up the country wide rollout of Fiber, If it wasn't for her it would've been done by the mid to late 90's and Gigabit speeds would now be the norm all over the UK.

I am not just talking about rural areas, but in general - the whole US system has companies locally acting as monopolies meaning the ISPs have a captive audience. So they don't give a damn and can just throw money at lobbyists if their cash cows are affected.

Yeah my bestie lives in Texas and he pays a silly amount for basic ADSL. According to the online conversion I pay the equivalent of $34 per month for unlimited 24Mbps down and 1.3Mbps up, Compared to fiber it's awful but it's usable.

He gets 18Mbps down and 0.9Mbps up and pays $80 per month, It's ridiculous.

That's even worse than I expected.

He did inquire about fiber and the tech working their told him if he wants fiber he'll have to pony up the $100,000 for them to dig the ditch to lay the fiber and then also pay $200,000+ to upgrade various equipment... or he can wait an estimated 20+ years for them to slowly install it.

Wouldn’t Starlink work for him.?

You know how I feel about that. I won't cut of my nose to spite my face. Been there done that. I just do what's best for me. People will do what they will do and I have no control over that.

Do I like the idea of streaming? No. Do I like the idea of renting GPU's? No. Do I like having to pay Nvidia a four figure sum to play a game or two I fancy playing maxed out that my card can't handle? Hell no!
£18 will do the job there then.
That is how I see it.
Chances are I won't even be using it anyway. But I do like that it is there as an option if I do.
