NVIDIA 4000 Series

Early access and clearly unfinished games, coupled with disgusting hardware price gouging is putting me off PC gaming again. This is why I abandoned it previously, I only came back to PC gaming about 5 years ago and even then, prices felt high for GPU's like the 1080. Now it's being normalised by the likes of Nvidia and even AMD who seem to price their hardware just behind Nvidia. I'd love to know the actual manufacturing costs of a GPU, I get that these new wafers are expensive, so maybe the only real hope is intel as they own their own fab plants... however, based on their equally shady business practices there's little chance of them turning out to be a consumer saviour lol.

Fortunately I only really play a handful of games, so I'm not really bothered about frame rates on Civ 6 and all the other games support DLSS, so there's really no actual need for me to upgrade. I'll wait this generation out and if it's more of the same next gen, well, I'll ditch PC gaming and go back to console.

Judging by your signature specifications it'll be a long time yet before you consider retiring from PC gaming and I can see console prices rising as did the PS5 recently. The budget gamer is clearly being priced out of the market.

Truss is going to make the 4090 cost £2500 easy.

You forget she has also made the running costs go up so more money money in vat (tax payers money) for them to pass on to the energy companies, banks to bail out in the near future again (you know that scam they pulled on us a few years back and we never got the money back, while they want bonuses double their wages that are stupidly high as they are compared to any other work). Honestly the people need to get up now and say enough is enough they are doing nothing more than lining their own pockets now and putting many peoples lives at risk. It's embarrassing now we have all let it get this far.

4090 FE looks like its def going to be the card to get so long as they dont change that price before the 12th................

I can buy a waterblock for it and still have a couple of hundred quid spare compared to a strix.

  • AD102: 608 mm² die, 76.3B transistors
  • AD103: 378.6 mm² die, 45.9B transistors
  • AD104: 294.5 mm² die, 35.8B transistors
So it's even worse than suspected, the 4080 16GB is really an xx70 and the 4080 12GB is an xx60 compared with previous gen.

I seriously hope this bites them in the arse.

Agreed. A £150 waterblock and a 240 rad will destroy any massive air cooler on the GPU. It's a lot more hassle though. Personally I can't bother with water cooling anymore.

Yeah it just gets worse and worse.

Press coverage has been very negative so I really hope AMD delivers a massive blow and forces them to substantially drop prices.

For some. I want a top-end AIB model, and will only buy from Overclockers. Selling my 3090 will soften the blow.

Me an OC have more than a decade of history together and they've done some great stuff for me over the years from a customer service point of view. It pays to be good to us, because here I am, back two years after my 3090 purchase for a 4090.

Not really interested if it's slightly cheaper elsewhere. Don't care. Overclockers all the way.

I got my 3090 OC from the EU £400 cheaper.
I did order from here, but they never got stock.

Prices start from just under £1700 and if you want something fancy like ASUS Strix then you are looking around 2K

Well worth it though. Best hurry as loads here will be buying so stocks won’t last! :p
yes, i cant wait

4090 1st then ill get the 4090ti, just like i did with the 30 series.

Yep then to add insult to injury they didn't price them at xx70 and xx60 brackets, they jacked them up. They should have just revealed the 4090 and only disclosed the lower stack after ampere inventory had been depleted.

I'm hoping that's the case, I guess it depends on what games come out and if there's a burning desire to play them lol. For now I'm perfectly okay with my rig, so as much as I'd like to upgrade the GPU it's by no means a necessity, so skipping this round of cards seems the sensible thing to do.

I don't think PC budget gaming is going to exist anymore, even the 3060ti FE I have is considered a budget card at £369 MSRP, so it will be interesting to see if there's even an option at that price for 4000 series and what sort of performance it actually offers.

The exchange rate will make these prices sting even more.

$1.11 to the pound. Yikes.
Even the ruble is doing better than GBP

I bought a gazprom share for the lol when the war broke out check the exchange rate impact which means if you bought USD at the start of the war you would be up 20.85%
