NVIDIA 4000 Series

Well I guess that proves one thing, that these power hungry cards are actually highly efficient on power when locked to draw a certain number of frames and run very cool and silent?
Seems, here's Horizon Zero Dawn maxed out 3440x1440 locked to 120fps which is the highest the game lets me lock it to
GV6oJhS.jpg
46c after 10mins
30% is the fan speed, 49% is the utilization of the card

pulling 205watt or is that 285? that font is so crap I can't even tell lol...
I checked on the after burner graph and it peaked at 222watts

My card is set to 60% power limit in afterburner btw

BTW Suprim X my LEDs keep turning off and only come back on after a reboot... no settings for them int he msi lightsync software either

Maybe this is the game changer after all, you still get monumental fps, but you also use puny amounts of power as a result. you could lock the framerate to whatever your refresh rate is and never hear the GPU fan again when gaming as a result?

That's one way of looking at it lol.

If the 16GB 4080 follows a similar trend then I may well have to switch up to that. The only thing that annoys me about the 3080 Ti even undervolted is the loud fan which is still loud even with headphones on when gaming, just because the GPU temp is so high.

The framerate lock is a very validnpoint

On my 3440x1440 i lock it to 175fps as that's my max refresh. On my 3840x2160 screen I lock to 120fps as that's my max refresh.

I expect that in the majority of games, with this frame cap, the GPU will run under its full potential and draw very little power without me even having to undervolt or lower power limits

This has thrown a curve ball into the works hasn't it, we now have what appears to be the holy grail for high end but virtually silent gaming with low power consumption. My 3080 Ti has pulled 320 watts today and that was during the Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark I did to test the new drivers. And even then it didn't get an average fps above 66 lol - It was loud, consumed a lot of power and generated 80 degrees of heat.

I think all the focus on massive power reqs and massive framerate numbers has been somewhat misguided because to my eyes this efficiency factor when you lock the framerate to your refresh rate is the golden ticket.

I just had a look through google website where you can pick parts for your PC, which also kind of shows all kinds of shops in UK - if someone is happy to pay a bit more, some shops in UK still have few cards in stock below £2k (£1850 cheapest I've seen so far). But they're more expensive than FE, so I am not touching these.

Its scary cos I've been there myself. Namely with Apple.

£2k Macbook
£1k iphone
£1k ipad with cellular
£250 ipod

On a student salary - aka putting pressure on my hard working parens to pay for it cos I didn't realise the concept of money.

Wanting to stay up to date and obsessed with having the latest model for the first 2-3 years of university. My poor parents having to try and fund it when I needed to grow up instead. Using high end semi-profesionall gear to browse google chrome, check my emails and do the odd power point.

Had an epiphany about it around 2014-2015. now I'm still rocking the same macbook for the same silly duties.. except its battery life is now closer to 25 minues lol.

However gaming has that magic about it, especially when u push it to the limits.. which makes u wanna spend ££. I just tried BF5 on my RTX 2080 triple monitor 4K... and i can defo do with the juice to make it really run. Similarly MSFS

Get it bought. Be a massive jump over the 2080 assuming that is your current card? MSFS is going to be one of the first games to use DLSS 3.0.

The 3080 was 120-160% faster than a 2080 super. And a 4090 is twice as fast as a 3080. Then there be DLSS 3.0. Ray tracing performance was staggering also.

I dont reckon they make that much on pre-builts - so if building isn't really part of the PC that you enjoy - then get a pre built. Treat yerself.

You can only wear one watch at a time (unless your name is Gok) so get it bought lad. Worked hard to earn that much.

Maybe a nice 42 inch OLED to go with that sir?

This is very interesting and potentially one bit of compelling evidence I can give to my wife when she complains about the cost that I can say I am actually saving energy

Yes they haven't sold out and I think some retailers deliberately pulled their stock and made it look like they sold out too, hoping they can price gouge them later and pretend short supply, there were loads on many retailers and all of a sudden they got pulled and then stuck back on with new prices and then pulled again, some silly games going on for sure and the Mexican standoff comments were very true, most were waiting to see what other retailers were charging and set their prices from there. Nothing more than price gouging at its best.

Don't fall for the lack of supply with 4090s their is many still available from honest retailers not playing these games if you look around and don't fall for the gouged prices. Even many gpu aibs stores still have them in stock. The greed from 30 series is still strong with some retailers.

I am sure there are lots of smaller stores out there that I do not know that have stock of these even for low price. The ones I found are more known - most are sold out but few still have some, though not many shows in stock. Pricing looks fine, just I don't want these more expensive AIBs as it's throwing monies away for no gain. There might be more posted tomorrow, in various shops. Some will be delivered tomorrow, some might decide to put in their existing stock etc. I wonder if NVIDIA will post more of the FE, as today it was pathetic.

Whats the plan with 3 of them?

SLI...

Ohh wait no NVLINK this time...

Guessing has 3 systems or planning to scalp a couple...? who knows why one person would need three, two I could understand if they could be NVLINKED even without NVLINK 2 could be put to use in a single system for certain tasks but 3 naaah not with the size of these cards.

Keep in mind as well that when you enable DLSS, the GPU power draw drops quite a bit too, so assuming @arknor results above were without DLSS enabled (don't know if those games have it), then with DLSS on the power use will be even lower still.

Someone got DLSS 3 working ona 2070 and is testing it out on a 3080 - He's doubled his 2070 framerate supposedly - Says he has "connections" and it was a matter of tricking the game/driver in matching the VRAM reqs so it matches up with what's expected for the frame gen toggle to actually do something: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/y1gx4s/comment/irxa6s8/?context=3

If its true, this will be a game changer for all previous gens from 20 and 30 series.

Bookmarked the thread, gonna keep an eye on it.
