NVIDIA 4000 Series

How far does the slider go?

133%. Had a brief play with mine last night.

Port Royale actually runs smoothly and looks great for once. Played MW2 without DLSS locked at 120/4K max settings and it barely tipped 65C but it’s the VRAM temps that are much lower now they’ve included them on the vapour chamber contact too.

Maybe it's a semantics thing and by launch they actually mean announce, but at Monday's earnings call they did say they're launching RDNA 3 this week.
I think the original announcement Tweet from weeks ago used the word launch.
They are usually quite careful with their words in these investor meetings, but there is the potential they are using these words interchangeably.

Thinking of purchasing a 4080 or 4090. Looking at the costs, a 4090 and new psu looks to set me back around £2000-2100. A 4080 maybe £1400-1500? I have read a bit but was wondering what the performance difference may be. Appreciate its only speculation at this point but would welcome any fair guesstimates.

Hi guys fast question. I have 12900K stock

32 GB 2x16 GB DDR4 3600mhz

Palit Gamerock Pro OC rtx 4090

1300W Seasonic Platinum Prime

Windows 11 2H22. Updated new nvidia drivers.

Quake 2 rtx question

I changed from 3090 ti to rtx 4090. On 1440P with 3090 Ti i had on begining 107-108 fps. Now i have 165-180fps ,and fps fluctuating even if i am doing nothing. Just standing. Is this normal?

gpu usage 100% , gpu clocks 2650+-

The issue is your PSU. It clearly isn't enough to handle the 4090. I would recommend trying to get something with more oomph. :|

i'm interested in what AMD have to offer but i pretty much know in advance i won't be using their gpu's as they are the poor relation when it comes to VR gaming. they have incompatiblities with several VR headsets and don't perform as well with some others, unfortunately.
My 6800XT does great with my HP Reverb. The frame pacing feels better than my 3080Ti.

AMD's reprojection implimentation doesn't seem to work as well as Nvidia's though, so when the GPU starts to struggle, the 3080Ti is playable and the 6800XT is not so much. (Just have to leave a little more headroom with setting selection on the 6800XT)

There's alao an issue with the latest drivers showing performance regression in Project Cars 2 for me.

Oh, and Nvidia seems very picky about what monitoring software I have running. Afterburner causes stuttering and frame drops. Same with WHinfo. FPS VR seems to be fine after one of the recent updates.

6800XT seems oblivious to monitoring software, which is good.

The PC2 driver regression is the only thing that makes me want to hold off on AMD's new stuff, but Nvidia has their own issues with cable roulette, so I could still go with either brand for an upgrade.

yeh i'm not saying all amd is bad for vr but for me it doesn't suit as i use hmd's that are incompatible or have performance issues. i used to use an amd gpu with a rift dk2 back in the day with no problems.

These new GPU cost nearly as much as my whole PC with a 2080ti 3 year ago which cost £2500 all together.

My current pc is probably around that also. Got a 3080 at present.

The prices are exorbitant. I’m pretty sensible with purchases normally. Been lucky/unlucky enough to get lots of overtime this month so it’s still pricey but paid for purely by OT
