NVIDIA 4000 Series

Its quite simple.

If your currency is strong against the US $ its a buyers market.
If your currency is weak against the US $ its an exporters market.

If the £ buys you $1.05 a $500 GPU will cost you £476 + your nations VAT, in the UK that's 20%, so the total cost is £571
If the £ buys you $1.22 a $500 GPU will cost you £410 + 20% = £492.

You divide the price of the $ by the price of the GPU's current MSRP, so if that's $500 and the £ buys you $1.22 its 500 / 1.22 = 409.83 + 20% VAT = £491.80.

Are you using the latest Apex bios 0703 ? it specifically says improves compatibility with 4090 ...

BIOS
Version 0703
2022/11/08 10.89 MBytes
ROG MAXIMUS Z790 APEX BIOS 0703
"1. Improve system performance
2. Fix the driver compatibility issue with NVIDIA RTX40 series cards
3. We suggest updating the ME firmware to the latest version 16.1.25.2020

“Before BIOS update, please download Intel ME update tool from ASUS support site, and update ME firmware to Version 16.1.25.2020 to ensure optimized system settings.”

Before running the USB BIOS Flashback tool, please rename the BIOS file (MZ790A.CAP) using BIOSRenamer."
DOWNLOAD
Im now only getting it on resets, powering off and on is working with adaptive sync disabled. Im pretty sure its monitor related. The G8 hasn't had a firmware update for months.

Im using the latest Apex Bios 0040 which came out yesterday.

Noooooo, the better the pound does, the more the graphics cards cost!

Have you learned nothing!?!

Doesn't matter if it's going up or down as when up the gpu prices creep up anyways and once the £ goes down the prices are raised even higher faster even when they were purchased at the old rate. You can't win this game, so staying out of it this gen as this gen has really taken the micky and the retailers think it's still covid/mining days and need to get back to reality.

Also Nvidia store needs to change their prices to reflect the new £/$ rates and drop the prices too as they were set when the £ was very weak to record breaking weak levels even. The scam needs to come to an end now.

Does sound like a monitor issue in that case :( i did have a look at G8 firmware as well but all i found was the owners thread on reddit saying most have 1003 and one guy saying his new panel has 1004 . do you have tv you could try it on to confirm ?

Boxing days sales! Who buys just before xmas when things are at their most expensive? Never understood why people would fork out full price for something when boxing day sales would probably be half price!

On top of that, a 4090 isn't too much of a stretch if you don't do anything particularly grand outside of your PC hobby - e.g. cook at home, don't drink or smoke, run a small 'regular' car, work from home, no fancy clothes
Exactly me. I still live with my parents, saving to move out with gf, I wfh doing 3d art and play games in my spare time, so a 4090 is both a benefit for work and pleasure that I can afford because I have so few expenses.

Meanwhile mum and dad are thinking "wtf, why are the energy bill suddenly so high?" :p

So took the waterblock off my FE today and replaced the thermal paste with liquid metal. Surprised just how much of a difference it made as normally I expect a 10c difference. Maybe adjusting the pump/fan curve a bit made a real difference as well. If I was going to run it at high wattages I'd probably need to upgrade one of my rads, I have EKWB 1x 240 60mm and 1x 240 30mm.

So 25 mins of Furmark 580W
GPU Max 61.5c
Hotspot Max 73.1c
Water Temp 40c

That looks perfect temp wise now :D
Yeah liqud metal is great stuff as long as the cooler is up to getting rd of the extra heat . Your temps look good and i would be happy with that :D gaming will have the delta even lower at around 13 deg over water temp at 350w .

My 4090 (I did end up buying a Zotac in the end for £1600, non-EU) should be arriving in the next couple of days, woowoo! I may order a 5800x3D too just to give me the most CPU muscle to power it for the next year or two!

The 4090 FE firmware fixed the issue for me .... are you using the Apex yet or still your old mb ? When I was looking for solutions some people had luck with a mb bios update rather than the card . I specifically remember evga mb and asus for amd having updates to improve compatibility with the 4090 and bios screen. I was still able to access bios on mine by constantly hitting F2 while restarting but it wouldn't show a picture until bios had actually loaded.

Was wondering why I wasn't getting a splash screen. Just had to change my board to an Aorus Z590 Master after RMA of Z490 Master but they didn't have any boards in stock. Firmware update fixed it.

edit: I was also getting ridiculous amounts of PCI hardware errors in HWiNFO and they have now disappeared as well. Was wondering what was causing that as I wasn't getting any crashes or BSOD

edit 2: spoke too soon. PCI/PCIe Bus Errors are back.
