NVIDIA 4000 Series

@Vertigo1 As mentioned previously the AX1600i was indeed overkill but out of interest how come you decided against the 4090 in the end ?

It was a pure indulgence that I didn't need. I'd been mulling it for a while but convinced myself I didn't need it and had better things to spend the money on but then got a bit caught up with the excitement of the FE actually being available for more than two minutes. When I calmed down and thought about it I decided I was right all along and didn't need it.

In hindsight nvidia will consider the 3080 msrp as a mistake and if the 3080 is going to be your measuring stick going forward, it’s gonna be one disappointment after another for future generations.
The 3080 used the top die though and was closer to the 90 in performance so it was a more premium card than the 4080.

If nvidia used the 102 for the 4080 then you could make the case of a grand being reasonable but with the 103 being quite a bit smaller and the 4080 not even using the full die I think a £700 price tag would have been dead on this time around.

If they'd have priced the 4080 16gb at £950 instead of trying to con users into buying a 4070 (ti) under a different name (the 12gb) then I suspect people would have been a bit more willing to buy a 4080.. even more so if it got a drop to £899 with the £ improving against the $. Still a little higher than it should ideally be but it's the unfortunate situation of basically having nvidia as a monopoly on gpus.

It doesn't help when Jenson has made it openly clear to the shareholders he's going to try and milk us this generation...

In the past couple weeks it's only been out of stock for one day.
There's been 'rumours' that Nvidia had been stockpiling stock to flood the market on release of the AMD cards, along with a price drop which hasn't happened.... could be partly down to that excess of stock too.

Love that. Finally got around to installing my waterblock on the fe 4090 and I knew the screws could be an issue but holyyyyyy I did not expect them to strip so easily…. Guess I’m sticking to air cooling this generation then… never had an issue putting a block on my 3080ti or 2080ti, but these were soft as anything and I genuinely don’t know what I could have done better.

The 4080 12gb was a red herring product as it was so obviously bad it got the headlines but it's real job was to take the spotlight off from the equally poor but even higher margin 4080 16gb.

Even better than that they now have people believing that the actual 4060ti they're getting is a 70 class card, when it clearly isn't.

Oh my. I didn't realise how expensive this gen was.

The gouge is now the RRP.

This would be a flutter for me...buying this would be financial madness.

I only got the 3080 as I was lucky one day on the alerts.

Which screw holes did you strip to be able to mount the fan back?

And want to know what I find even funnier, that people turn a blind eye to amd doing exactly the same with the 7900xt :D  "amd good, nvidia bad"! :p

Lets just hope Jenson drops price somewhat of the 4080 and gives us a 80ti next year for the current price of the 4080, ultimately will mean amd will have to drop their prices as well so good for everyone.
