NVIDIA 4000 Series

Speaking of FE, I'm considering the 4090 FE after returning my 7900 XTX.

Last drop was January 4th, and I'm getting a bit impatient. Is there an AIB card that people would recommend for ~FE pricing (<1700)?

I'm currently using a 5600 with a 4070TI and there is some bottlenecking especially with RT enabled. Most noticable in Spider man and Cyberpunk. Everything else so far is good. I have been thinking of getting the X3D, however ATM I just can't justify the extra outlay just for a few frames, especially the 1% lows.
BTW I run a 1440p monitor and try to max out natively first, to reach 60+ fps, if not then DLSS is used.

The performance is presented in a relative form, not actual numbers and is with a 4090, but as you can see, from 5800x to 5800x3d there are some gains to be had even at higher resolutions and moving further to a 13900k there is still performance on the table...

I guess the bottom line is to always check tests for the games you're interested in, see how it performance and, in general, try to have a clear view of what future games could be.

If I was going to buy an AIB 4090 then this is probably the one I'd go for, 4 year warranty also.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,710.49 (includes delivery: £10.50)

I don't know why people think this. From the time I decided I wanted a 3080 to getting hold of an FE card was about 2 weeks, i signed up for alerts, missed out on one and then the next weekend got one

That same week there were also aib cards at the curry place that weren't rediculously over MSRP too
I agree with this. It was not hard if you put in a couple minutes effort setting up a stock notifier. If there was no limit per household I could've grabbed tons of FE cards.

No point crying about it if you just sat around waiting for them on the high street.

And yet I can give you 14 people I personally know of that from December 2020 up until about May 2022 (mining crash) who tried and failed to see if they could get a 3080 FE at MSRP. Those us might remember that the 3080 FE drops became so rare that they were compared to rocking horse poo.

Just because you and that lucky sod (@TNA ;)) got them at MSRP doesn't means that it was easy for the rest of us mere mortals. ;) It's not even easy to get a 4090 FE at MSRP now and the 3080 FE was 10x worse due to mining and covid.
Everyone I know that wanted one got one and typically within a month of signing up for stock updates. Having said that, I don't know 14 people in my circle of friends who buy xx80+ GPU's either, if I did I would probably just chat to them about this stuff instead of going on a forum at all, I mean, I'm not saying that's a completely made up number but...

If you have the type of job where you work weekends and aren't allowed to check your phone when it beeps then I'd imagine buying top tier graphics cards is not a high priority anyway.

I mean, this topic comes up quite a bit and on one side I see many multiple people who say they got one easily themselves and then on the other side a couple of people "and their many faceless friends" couldn't get hold of one. It just seems a bit odd that lots of people who could get one are able to speak for themselves, but the people who couldn't feel the need to stat pad on behalf of those who they seem to assume couldn't.

And yes, it is very easy to get a 4090 at or near MSRP, there are loads of places with stock of 4090's. Nobody considering buying a £1679 GPU is in the slightest worried about an extra £50 or £100 to get one next day.

I tried to get a 3080 FE, it was in my basket ready to checkout but it failed because i had already bought a 3090 FE from the same place LOL.

You could get it if you tried and been patient and lucky

Contact store they might sort you out. Just done same as mine dropped £50
Different store to the one I bought from and I cannot now return, sadly. Oh well, not the end of the world!
Wouldbt touch gigaS@@@ ever again .
You can say the same about any of the major manufacturers, they are all pretty much as bad as each other.

You have moved the goal posts as I was talking specifically about getting them at the MSRP of £650. No matter what your experience was, it was obvious that for the normal man on the street the 3080 FE card was near impossible to get at £650 for most of its cycle. You only have to compare that to getting a 2080 or 2070 the generation before. Which was the normal case of going to a website like OcUK adding it to your basket and then paying for it.

I know a guy who was actually a game developer, so very used to using technology, and he wasn't even aware of notifications until just before the mining crash. (I told him!)

Anyway, I will leave you to your beliefs and get back on topic to specific 4000 chat.

If 4070ti's keep dropping in price slowly, the 4090 is looking less worth it by the day now.

799inc gets you into the cheapest 4070ti on OCUK. 665 without the VAT, its not as bad as launch day.

As I recall there were a lot more 3080 drops closer to launch. After 6 months if I remember correctly there were not as many drops for them. So could be if you and your mates missed out early on things got much harder.

I got one the first time I tried as I recall, maybe second at worst ;):D

Well I mean it's still worth it if you don't want a '4060' performance card.

Absolutely. I managed to buy 3080 and 2x 3060ti before they introduced limit of 1 per household.
My two mates who I told about FE Part Alert notifications bought cards they wanted without much issues. One got 3080 and the other got 3070.
