NVIDIA 5000 SERIES

Realistically, if you're on a 20 or 30 series card then upgrading to 50 series is a good idea, if you're on a 40 series then it really doesn't make much sense unless you absolutely have to have the latest and greatest.

I'm definitely keeping a beady eye out for any decently priced 4090s coming up on the second hand market... Hoping the 5070=4090 slide convices a few into selling.
My 4090 is yours for tree fiddy.

So this month my ultrawide screen broke after an accident knock while trying to fix a nephews desktop and I replaced it with a 240 HZ 4K OLED. Due to this I have to upgrade from my 3080 to a 5090 only to realise that my PSU didn't have enough oomph so I ordered a new 1200 W PSU. Then it occured to me if I'm going for a 5090 I should upgrade my 5800X to a 9900X3d so I've ordered that with 64 GB 6000 DDR5. It's ended up an expensive month but at least my case and fans are okay, the 5090 isn't that big...right?
The AIBs are ... which is one of the reasons why I prefer the FE cards.

Can't find solid info if there is going to be any waterblocks for the 5090 founders edition, has anyone seen anything.

Would like an alphacool block but any decent one will do tbh.
Would like to know this as well! Perhaps more will be revealed. I only see the Alphacool blocks for specific AIBs and the Gigabyte Waterforce pre-watercooled card (that will probably be very expensive.)

First 5080 benchmark, 18% faster than 4080

I had to look up what this test was as I’ve never heard of it - it’s a ‘memory bandwidth’ test. Apparently, the 5080 it’s 6% faster than the 4090. Which by my crap maths means that the 4090 is about 10% faster than the 4080 in the same test…?

I don’t have a clue what to make of it tbh!

no way

$1999 sounded, looks OK, but £2500 just seems a bit much, especially if ppl are selling their 4090 for £1000 to £1400 they need to add another £1000 pounds to get a 5090
Well, I was joking a little, but from what I remember they had some SKUs of the 4090 for at least an extra £300 on top of the MSRP, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were some 3.5-4 slot or almost 5 slot designs for £2300+.
There's also liquid cooled SKUs which are usually on the more expensive end as well.

Anyone else on the fence with a 5090fe or 5090 non reference? I was dead cert on picking up an fe but now I'm leaning towards a non reference card because of the possible overclocking gains to be had.

Fe with 2 fans in a 2 slot cooling shroud vs 4 slot shroud with 3-4 fans. Seems like a no brainer for a decent stable overclock.

The 4090s were cool but very whiny. The card draws more power… so scope to be even whinier!

Pretty much impossible to tell how it’ll compare… but I’m not really sure that this is a card that you’ll need to overclock tbh.

there's enough videos online now to figure out that yes dlss4's transformer model does improve image quality which is very nice and all RTX GPUs get this for free.

However frame generation seems to still have the same image quality issues as before

Never owned a FE. Won't these be really hot compared to an AIB given they only have 2 fans, are very compact and have smaller heatsink?

They don't really have a smaller heatsink, the pcb is very small so basically the entire card is a heatsink of sorts. I had a 3070fe and a 3080ti, they're an incredibly well built card and the weight of them was really surprising, very heavy and quality feeling.

Yes they will run hotter than last gen

But will it overheat? Doubt it, Nvidia must have tested it and found it works ok. The reason for the small cooler is they want it to fit in SFF cases as SFF cases have become very popular

I've watched enough tests to know that you can do some incredible cooling for a tiny heatsink and massive fast fans - so I believe it's the fans doing all the hard work, the heatsink is small because those fans are going to push a lot of air thanks to their size and high rpm

Don't worry 4090 owners, Once the modders get hold of the MFG and DLSS files you'll soon be able to drop them right in your favourite DLSS and Frame Gen game title and magically transform our 4090s into 5090s and use 125w less power for the pleasure as well lol.

Edit...I should add that's if you want to feel like your playing on a 30 FPS console.

With the 5080FE in mind am I right in assuming the following:

1. It is smaller than the 4080FE?
2. It works with the same power connector as the 4080FE?
3. My current PSU which is powering a 4080FE will still work just fine?

I dont think I will buy one yet, but maybe at some point later on in the year.

Funny no one has mentioned a particular aspect before

When Nvidia first launch frame generation, they clearly stated it should only ever be enabled if your base frame is over 60, otherwise the experience is bad and latency high, they also said the higher the base frame rate the better your experience will be.

But when they announced MFG, they completely ignored this and showed off many demos of games running with 18-30fps base frame rate, which means getting the shown performance you'll be playing with the latency of a 20fps game...

imagine telling people 10 years ago that in 2025 PC gamers will enjoy playing games with the latency of 20fps and not only enjoying it but defending it, PC gamers 10 years ago would throw up at this console Streisand mindset of modern PC gamerzzzz

Exactly because this time it doesn't suit their narrative for this release lol.

Me personally I hate FG, I can see it and it's noticeable, I guess some are just less prone to it, I never use it, I only ever use DLSS if I absolutely have to which has been minimal on a 4090 but yes I agree it's all software trickery with a little raster bump and nothing more.

I really liked the 4090 FE form factor. But there is no way I am going back to the 2 slot design with a 575w tdp.

I use to have the 3080ti FE and that was super super loud and with less power draw.

Now had they stick with the 4090 FE dimensions it would have been automatic day 1 purchase but now I am going to get butt ugly astral 4090 and gigabyte ice master 4090
