**Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Thread**

no offence, but heaven is a pointless way to test GPU temperature. not sure why every youtuber does it its stupid.

an example
my setup
Heaven my GPU is 68C for 1 entire hour

Play Witcher 3 its at 76C. 10 minutes

Is it, can't say I've never managed to get heaven to max it out but i shall try the witcher 3 later or at the weekend however i highly doubt it will go that high mate.

Have to agree with smogsy, both timespy and heaven my card tops at 40, in mass effect Andromeda i can reach 48 and my overclock boosts down by as much as 50mhz more at some points. Titan fall 2 however mimicks these benchmarks and i get a rock solid boost.

So excited to get my Strix 1080 ti OC up and running and...... it sounds like a box of crickets. More whine than my kids by an ice cream van.

Anyone else seeing this? It got great reviews for being silent but I can hear the coils above any of the fans of my PC (with the panels on).

What card have you got ? I'll do some proper testing at the weekend but if my card went from 66c to 78c from benchmark to game I'd be disappointed at the cooling.

Yup, Zotac Amp! Extreme, Gigabyte Aorus or EVGA FTW3 (mainly because of the transparent ICX monitoring system) are the best imo.

The Strix vrms were getting to nearly 90c in the Guru3d thermal imaging test. Not impressive at all.

So the strix have hot vrm's and are whiner's, has anyone had a listen to their amp extreme with vsync disabled ? Have to say it's minimal and not noticeable.
Maybe that's how asus have managed to ship in quantities so early, poor components ?

You made an assumption that because 1 person says his pc is quiet and sounds like a helicopter that nobody is correct ? I've never owned a zotac card before but helping others with their decision, the amp extreme has the thickest heat sink I've ever seen and shows it's not there for show because I've never felt so much heat coming from a gpu that on mine anyway sits at 66c at full load, the hest sink is doing a fantastic job of dissipating the heat away from the core.

I made an assumption that based on no actual test to back it up, stuff people write on the internet is usually not very reliable. Thats usually true. I didn't say you were definitely wrong, I just pointed out you had no test data to back it up, and when I did find some I found the amp extreme is not actually massively quieter than several other 1080ti cards that have been tested.

I'm not questioning your opinion of your card, the only thing I'm questioning is the assertion from yourself and tweaktown, neither of whom have tested more than maybe 1 or 2 cards, that this one is "the best". To be "the best" it would need to have some attribute that is clearly better than all the others. Its not cheaper (its one of the top two most expensive air cooled cards), its not measurably quieter than several other custom cards (which do happen to be cheaper), it doesn't overclock better than any of them either, so what attribute does it have that is "the best"?

agree with that tbh.

without exact db numbers and detailed info how it was measured quiet means nothing

Yep my experience too like i reported here a few days ago, great card, good overclocker but terrible whine, It´s a shame really this problem still exists if they really wanted too something could be done by now! anyway like i said all 1080 TI´S will have some due to current values, sometimes people say they dont have coile whine but i strongly suspect they not testing the card properly.

MSI X has much less coile whine and a even the whine is steady like a faint electrical noise not whining, but perfectly acceptable if it holds, i think it will. on top that better fans then the Strix much better! i was going to test a gigabyte auros but i think i will stay on MSI, just a good performer all round and a dam sexy card too :)

Its not poor components per say, they coiles just are not tight enough with electrical vibration and the TI´S EXTRA WATTS she sings like a cat :D
