**Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Thread**

Ok wait for the reviews to flow.

The reviews dont test for coile whine under the right conditions or do not mention that often because all cards will have different "whine" and the manufactures say its "normal" they do not consider coile whine as defective or bad parts. for what ever reason its pretty difficult to tighten coiles

believe me i have done research and tested many cards on this issue over the years, normally this is a high end card "problem" due to increased TDP

buzz free operation my ass! :)

Sorry that was directed at smogsy that doesn't believe a card is quiet when they say in a review, i meant to him to wait for the reviews.

:) Sure i know, just wanted to try and explain some things, reviews are all but i rather have some real life experience with actual people who own and use there card every day. but this coile whine business is messy, not all cards will be the same and many people just dont care too.

Exactly, people sticking sound meters near gpu's measuring 1db difference is a complete waste of time, all i know is it is silent to me, i don't have gsync so play with vsync so not an issue for me, however i have listened to this and it sound like a whine to me at all on my amp extreme, more a electrical stutter noise which to me is barely audible.

There already are reviews that do test db, i posted them earlier in the thread along with comparable other (cheaper) custom card tests

Again, not saying your card isnt quiet, its just not £100 quieter, which would be suggested by saying the amp extreme is "the best"

The 5yr warranty alone is worth the difference, never mind anything else under the hood, £100 difference ? Where do you get that from an fe card is £700 i paid £809 what custom are getting at £700 ?

Its £830 today, how could i know what price you paid? When you are on a forum suggesting to other people what to buy they cant go back in time to get your price either

I did mention several times it was £60-100 more than some other customs, youve jumped on it now as if I said £110

Amp Extreme is a cracking card, beefy cooler, vrm circuit. seems like a good buy to me even though performance will not be any different for the most part. love to try one out :)

Actually that stutter noise is closer to what I'm hearing on the Strix- but not barely audible; I can hear it from the opposite side of the room. It's similar to the noise you'd get with something thin stuck in a fan blade. I also read about limiting frame rates with VSYNC, which does have an effect. I'm new to high performance GPUs (I came from a 1060), but I am an electronics engineer. I knocked the power target on mine down and the sound dropped with it. At 60% is was 'acceptable' (same volume as the fans). The noise dropped linearly with the power draw. So do the frame rates, I guess. I think limiting load with VSYNC or other frame rate caps is indirectly affecting the noise by reducing the power - the root cause is probably too much current for the quality of the coils. Sorry if I'm doing an egg sucking lesson - this is probably old news. My power supply is as Corsair HX850i and it's reporting 300W under load so I don't think ripple from that is the cause (although maybe I should stick a scope on it?).

I think I'm going to send this one back. I might give the Aorus a go. If that allows boosts of 150% on power target, then maybe the power stage is better. I've got a feeling that it might just be a quality issue on the Strix, because nobody mentions it on the reviews - in fact the Totally Silenced Tech one even had recordings and comparisons with the 1080 under load. I can just about hear it on the 1080, but his Strix 1080ti sounds fine. Menta38 also found it, but it's just the two of us so far. It would be interesting if anyone's got a quiet one as an extra data point.

It's probably as simple as the make of coil they have used, it's a bit of a lottery tbh, just noticed on the amp extreme it allows a power target of 120 but I've clocked this higher and it's still only at 94% power usage.

Also that power supply is fine.

There are other reports on other forums and even youtube, i have been tracking this "issue" on the strix, even found a video while searching some reviews. but still it does not mean it will be widespread, who knows.

In this video its more a buzz noise without the wine, stressing the card it will most likely whine more. depends there is lots of info missing....

So the Zotac GTX 1080Ti AMP Extreme Spectre is the go to card for those that can afford it? I'm still not sure what I would like to do regarding cards :(. Everytime I feel I'm getting closer to choosing a card the price then throws me off, with the more expensive custom aftermarket cards that is.
