**Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Thread**

Has Titan X Pascal in sig, thinks people are mental for possibly losing £100 in re sale on a GTX 1080.

Fails to see irony of calling people mental regarding money.

So in summary, yes people are mental here.

:D

But Although expensive, its going to last until 2018, maybe longer.

Buying a 1080, keeping it 6 months, lose money on it to then spend several hundred pounds more to place it with a card 10% faster is daft though. People with 1080s should just keep them until next gen in 2018.

AT least i went from a 290x to my Titan :)

And with the exchange rate going the way it is, the 1080ti will end up been slower than a titan and will cost the same as what I bought mine for :p

Waiting to see what the 1080ti does...single card replacement for my existing 295x2.

The 1080 just doesn't offer enough of a change for the money.

Of course, if I do switch to Nvidia, then the monitor I want to get will have to be gsync.....costly hobby this, isn't it!!

Again a 10% faster 1080ti isnt going to be much better either. best for you to skip this gen or buy a dirt cheap 1080 from the "people" upgrading to a 1080ti :p

No need for that word-schizo

That is def an option....either way, wait until some hard facts about either Vega or 1080ti, I think :)

Just can't handle the stuttering and bad crossfire support any more with the 295x2 (other brands of dual GPUs are available). Shame cos the card is a beast and heartily powerful! Darn you CF y u not work well anymore :(

Do we think the 1080ti will be a good enough upgrade from a 980ti? My 980ti is clocked to 1700 with a prolimatech MK26 which keeps it silent but its too big with 2x140mm fans so I really want to change it but don't want to waste money. I game at 1440p. The 3770k is deffo getting changed for the 8 core zen though what ever happens.
Its a exciting time for PC enthusiasts....

as long as you can game at 1440p, ultra settings and not notice your 980TI struggling, I'd say you have no reason to upgrade just yet.

Well if AMD can't pull their own weight, then this hobby will get even more expensive. IMO, if the 1080ti is below a Titan XP, it's a POS pointless card (already paying £600+ for 1080s or £1.2k for measly 20% more perf). All those saying wait till 1180/2080 they have a point. Unless the price-hike trend continues and the 1160 then costs as much as a 1070... R.I.P. GPU enthusiasts.

I really don't see where a sub-TXP 1080ti can fit into the market, who the hell will it appeal to? People who want the best card will just get TXP and people who don't want pay for a TXP will just get a 1080... the gap and pricing just isn't there for it to appeal like a 980ti for being a cheaper Titan X.

Everyone saying 1080 Ti will be 10% faster than 1080 you serious? Since by time Ti hits the shelves Titan x would be 7-8 months old WOULDN'T be surprised if it's a full GP102. My theory?
2013: Titan followed by cut down 780 3 months later then full gk110 6-7 months later.
2015: Titan x followed by cut down 980 Ti 3 months later
Personally I don't think they'll release a slower card 7 months later maybe a few months like the 780 and 980 Ti. I think people could be surprised. What if Vega beats or matches titan X? Nvidia will want to take the lead as launching a crippled 1080 Ti for it to be slower means they'll have to launch a CONSUMER fully fledged card further delaying Volta.

^ indeed

I suspect Nvidia may release a sort of refresh of the 1000 series like they did with the 600 - 700 series to compete with vega. After all, it will likely be a year since the first Pascal cards so wouldn't be out of the ordinary timescale wise.

So we will get the 1100 series or something with the 1080 (maybe clock bumped?) becoming the 1170, the 1070 becoming the 1160 and then perhaps two GP102 chips to make a 1180 and a 1180TI like the 780 and 780Ti.

If Volta is delayed, are we sure the delay isn't simply because Pascal is doing so well, very profitable, and there's no competition around? Maybe it's ready now or will be soon but they simply are delaying it's release through choice.

I think the 1080 Ti could be the same as the TXP chip when/if it's released and could be faster but I'd be surprised if it is even just the same, partly due to the currently pricing of the TXP. THink someone else recently gave good explanation why it wont be faster. We're not going to get a cheap card equal to or better than the TXP and at high prices it's still going to be a very niche card which is not what the Ti is usually about. SO I reckon it'll still be a crippled TXP, if it even happens at all.

As we're on the first gen smaller node something could be different this time around but I'm betting Volta will come sooner this time around rather than a refresh happening where a refresh could naturally lead to a Ti being faster than the TXP.
Wasn't Pascal originally not even on the roadmap a few years ago? Maybe it was only meant to be a stop-gap, a half-way tech step anyway, hence Volta may come sooner than the usual time between generations. After all, they will want to improve on DX12 before some big ground up DX12 games hit and a refresh probably won't.

If a 1080 TI does appear and it's a bit slower than a TXP or same AND it's a decent price then it will probably have shortest lifespan in Ti history (meaning before next gen hits) - pure speculation tho and based on the assumption they have spare parts not being up to TXP grade that they will want rid of and as time goes by the more keen they'll be to want rid of :D
