**Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Thread**

supposing I was building a new system in the next week or so, completely new system, and I'd like a powerful GPU for some coding related projects... and I might like to get this 1080ti when it comes out....

in terms of the hit I'd likely take buying a GPU now and then selling it in say a month or two - would you go for a 980ti, 1070 or 1080?

I'm assuming my best bet is a second hand 980ti now rather than a brand new 1070/80 and then resell in a couple of months?

Cheap 980ti, you'll get it sold easily and not take a big loss.

I don't think you understand. I know it's there best card. I mean do something different not the same Titan card again and again every year. A new idea?

There will always be a highend card but the next one from NVidia could be very different with Volta. Probably a lot smaller in size and with HBM2 or better memory. The only thing that won't change is the excessive asking price.

Also a long way into the future I think (guessing) we may see cards using NVLink or faster so that mGPU is seen and used as a single core.

Before I get too excited do you think I need to worry about the 1080Ti having any compatiblity issues with my antique p8z68-v motherboard?

edit -

Take my money :p

Honestly REALLY not excited for this seeing as it's basically just a slightly cut down Titan XP so it's not really something new.
Not forgetting to mention it's going to have a short shelf life due to the rumored Pascal refresh later this year.
Sticking with my 1080 until that me thinks.

1080Ti doesn't excite me either. I'll be waiting for Volta.

it will be faster than a 1080, but not quite as fast as a titan at standard clocks, over clocked it will beat a standard titan I expect, depends if it overclocks further than titan does. if that's true.

I bought my 980Ti for £500 in June 2015, there is no way that I'll be paying more than £600 for a graphics card. It's just gone a bit silly.

I really hope Vega can come in and drop the priced.

i thought they would skip ti this generation to be honest and refresh , however as amd have bought nothing to the table it makes sense to milk this generation some more before refresh. Just feel sorry for people buying this because the refresh on line up will most likely be over the next 6 months , so short shelf life.

Yup. far too silly in fact. Also the 1080Ti will be quickly forgotten. I'll be waiting for next series? I'm doing just fine

Same for me. I have funds available but really lacking any interest in this. Mind you, if it does look like Volta is a long ways off and the price is fair for this, I might jump but seriously don't need something that is possibly 20% faster than my 1080.
