NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080Ti to be "available" on June 3rd, RTX 3070Ti on June 10th

I'm confused as to why you're confused, as I thought my post was quite clear. I'm talking about availability of stock in the first place, not sales. From following stock alerts over the past few months, ones for the 3080 are fairly rare and ones for the 3060 Ti are almost non-existent (maybe a couple per week). That's compared to the 3060, 3070 and 3090, which show up multiple times almost every day. The two rarest cards also happen to be the ones that feature dies which could instead be used for more expensive models (the 3070 and 3090). I don't think that's a coincidence.
Doesn't this suggest yields are good so these dies go towards the higher end, more profitable cards and the dies that don't cut the mustard end up in the lower end cards? More good dies, more higher end cards, fewer low end cards?

Well the announcement is on at around 6, presumably Jensen in his spatula fetish kitchen once again gibbering on like the cards will be plentiful in supply.

What you describe relies on buyers making a stand and refusing to pay such high prices

Yea I'm not talking about anything like people refusing exactly just natural dynamics in that poor efficiency leads to failure in market revenue. Sucks for us because we want this specialist gear, Maybe I can go play the new Gran Turismo on PS5 instead maybe thats the more realistic aspiration then wanting a reversion to norm this year or even the next few years. If people avoid pc gaming I guess thats what I mean why would they stay here especially, some are willing to pay but even the elite sales need the bulk of a market to be there and justify chip development in gfx

Silly prices and it will kill PC gaming. Who’s going to spend 750+ on a graphics card + the rest for a midrange (let alone high end) PC system when you can get a Xbox or PS5 for much less and it’s a complete system. I’m sticking with my 1080 for the foreseeable future.

Plenty of people apparently. Its the new snakeoil roll up, roll up, come and get 'em while you can!

MSI scalpers showing their true form $2559......HAHAHAHA. And don't forget all us in the UK, there probably won't be any currency change here, at the moment the MSI card would be about £1804 but I bet it will be £2559.....
Nvidia knew these cards were coming, I bet they stopped the production down to a trickle for the 3080 cards, hence no stock and just made chips for the 3080ti cards with what was coming out of the factory?? Why you ask....because they knew that people will pay big money for cards, so they can make more money out of the 3080ti than a 3080??
So there must be people waiting for 3080's at the release MSRP?? Those no doubt will ust get cancelled now???
Just my thoughts of course ;)

The dollar price doesn't include sales tax so you're up to £2,165 just by adding VAT.

If they are no longer able to sell at normal prices to 'normal' customers then we are likely to see the end of this sector or a great downturn. We'll end up on console type designs in future because that set schedule can deliver reliable price points (eventually) through less variance.
There isnt going to be a continual boom, prices here will set a high tide mark and low tide just like oil was $130 a barrel then it was $30 and that can be terribly destructive for various industries but its a mistake to think inflation will be linear or consistent. That is hubris, what is the real efficiency of a card selling at such high prices we all know its nonsense it doesn't last for quite simple reason something better appears. Its upto manufactures, the whole R&D cycle through the supply chain down to us to realise that technology requires the masses to justify its cost and development not the elite or extreme usage and demand that falls off like the froth on a pan boiling over. All of this is destructive quite easily, hopeful people dealing in billions get that or we end up with a flat line in tech advances probably.

£200 price point or similar is really max of mainstream, pretty sure if they fail to serve that section it hurts them for years forward.

This mentions some the consequences of screwed up order lines etc
Good post, I agree I think they will have to head towards a console-type standard card otherwise PC gaming looks dead to me.

It's a pity people will buy these and ultimately give the thumbs up that it's OK to charge this much while complaining about the price. Seems completely illogical if correct. More than a rtx3090 for less performance and worse for mining on. Who is this targeted for? Shafting gamers further who have already been shafted for last 6 months. Go nvidia!

Lets face it the only reason the 3080 is the price it is is because the 6800XT exists at that price point if it didn't you'd be paying north of a grand for one and everyone would be spitting bile at AMD for not bringing down the price of their prized Team Green cards. Go nvidia!

I think you are all being very dramatic. Loads of industries have been hit by covid and thus prices have hiked. It will all gradually fade back to how it was once the world recovers.

You can snag a card from amd though, which is the reverse of up here in Belfast. :p

Yep, looking like the only real solution. Unless Intel can someh...... Nahhhhh.

There was an upward trend in pricing long before Covid hit.

Are they really making a song and dance about these releases, do they seriously not expect them to sell out in seconds already?

It reminds me of that South Park episode where Cartman advertises that nobody can come to his theme park.
