NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080Ti to be "available" on June 3rd, RTX 3070Ti on June 10th

Oh my, that's from a UK retailer. Over 3k for an MSI GPU.

What the hell??!.... Glad I have a 3080 at a normal price.
Those prices are insane if correct.

if correct.
How do you define "correct"?

If you mean that, whomever this is, intends to actually sell at these prices?...I dunno, maybe they do. The prices seem a bit random for me to believe that much thought went into them and they're definitely not based on, for example, a typical "cost + 20%" model

They're nowhere near the manufacturer's recommended LAUNCH prices if that's what you mean? (I make that definition because launch prices are, at time, unrealistic without price support and some prices will definitely move after the support expires)
However, thanks to a law designed to protect consumers, even at prices like these, the manufacturers could get into serious trouble if they were to question the reseller and try to influence the pricing.

This company has been known to enable scalping. I informed them of what people were doing to their site regarding scalping and how their 1 card policy was flawed and they did absolutely nothing to remedy it. Infact people were using bots to get cards multiple times without issue and bragging about it and yet they insisted their DDOS cloudfare was impenetrable . It's such a shame as i use to visit them regularly in store as they did some pretty smashing deals.

Prices are laughable. People may have paid through the nose to game during lockdown but as the country opens back up and you can do other things (summer too). All that retailers and the like of Nvidia are doing is killing PC gaming. fact. people will just find new hobbies. You can buy a nice mountain bike, a jetski and a drone and still have money left over for the price of one of those cards. absolutely stupid.

While I dont disagree you lost me at drone those people need to be strung up on lamposts

I gave up on the 3080 to wait for the to...but these prices are absolutely insane.

Very happy I managed to snag a PS5 yesterday. Ridiculous value compared to this nonsense.

I am out of the PC hardware game until the next GPU generation.

So whats OCUK excuse for scalping going to be? going with......."We only make 5p per card if we sell at £3000 anyway".
I really get sick of comments like that. We've been really open and honest about everything if you actually READ what Gibbo and I post with regards pricing decisions.

Considering how much time & effort we put into answering questions, even during our own time, and giving you guys unprecedented levels of information, it's extra frustrating. As a result, I'm done answering questions.
Gibbo's off celebrating his birthday today so he's not around either.

Your sig is quite apt ;)

There isn't one thing causing this. There are many.

Mining, Crypto, Covid, lockdowns, Chip shortages, Nvidia, supply chains, logistics, retailers.

I get easily annoyed at retailers pricing but then I ask myself what would I do if this were my business? Well I would sell the cards as such a price that I sold all but 1 card. Whatever that price is. Right on the upper limit of what actually sells. Thats just the world we live in.

Is it too late to pre-order one now? I'm so sick of trying to get a card and losing out to bots and scalpers but I outright refuse to buy one on that popular auction website.

So just looking at OCUK 3080Ti prices at the moment.

Gigabyte GEFORCE RTX 3080 TI VISION OC 12GB GDDR6X PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD £1589.99

PALIT GEFORCE RTX 3080 TI GAMEROCK OC 12GB GDDR6X PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD £1499.99

Gigabyte GEFORCE RTX 3080 TI GAMING OC 12GB GDDR6X PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD £1499.99

Gigabyte
GEFORCE RTX 3080 TI EAGLE 12GB GDDR6X PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD £1399.99

Zotac GEFORCE RTX 3080 TI AMP HOLO 12GB GDDR6X PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD £1349.99

Zotac GEFORCE RTX 3080 TI TRINITY OC 12GB GDDR6X PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD £1289.99

Palit GEFORCE RTX 3080 TI GAMINGPRO 12GB GDDR6X PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD £1049.99

Other businesses don't have that view though. When Harry Potter books came out they were in massive demand and sold out everywhere, the RRPs weren't marked up by 100% though. Ice creams on the beach aren't marked up by 100% on a hot day even though they would still sell them.

And then there are the regulated industries where you cant simply exploit your customers.

Yeah I know this is a GPU and not essential blah blah, however it doesn't make it right to exploit people and push out those who cannot pay the prices. Its because this is quite a niche segment that no one outside of it really cares.

I think about these issues in added value terms. With respect to retailers, mostly their job is quite straightforward - they get a product in from a distributer and pass it on to an end customer. Yes they have to deal with customers direct etc which IS an added cost and not easy at times. However what I ask is what is the right amount per customer to charge for this, taking account of the effort involved and the financing risk. If you think about it, it is crazy that a retailer will be making more margin off a GPU in absolute terms than the company that designed and built it.
