The GTX 980 first debuted back in September of last year for $549. It was the fastest 900 series single GPU offering from Nvidia at the time and it continued to hold that crown until Nvidia introduced the more expensive cards based on the larger GM200 GPU earlier this year. At which point Nvidia found it necessary to drop the price down to $499. The GTX 980 while not as fast as the 980 Ti is still a great performer and with a price tag that’s $140 below what it initially launched at it makes it a compelling proposition.

Exactly and the 980ti on release was $649 so the 1080 standard editions will be $50 less but will be 29% faster (according to latest benchmarks) so to me that isn't bad at all. Nvidia are ripping people off with the FE version but if people still buy them that's not there problem.
In a months time once all the third party 1080's are released we should see much cheaper versions more in the 980 release price range.

Forgive Ivan and others...They seem to have a problem with basic history and math :p

Not sure what you are arguing about, but £480 would be an understandable price for the gtx 1080. £619 definitely isn't.

It's almost certain they will be 8+6 pin. The few leaked designs have had 8+6pin. 6+6 would only provide the same as a single 8 pin.

GP100-based (HBM2) cards will be circa £1000. I guarantee it.

But that's all OK isn't it, because you don't HAVE to buy, you can choose not to. Basically, everything and anything is OK, as long as you have a choice whether to partake in it or not. Great philosophy... I can't see a single problem with that approach. :rolleyes:

And most of that is due to the exchange rate and the weak pound, not Nvidia.

If it was what it used to be would you be saying "OMG the 1080 is £400 and the 1080ti is going to be £500 and the gp100 will be £700!!!!!!!!!!!!" no you wouldnt.

Suck it up Britain, we have no buying power atm.
