NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

Hi all,

Just like to add my findings of using 2 different Gigabyte G1 GTX 970's.

1st card I had an ASIC quality of 63.8%. Tops I could achieve with this was 1560 core and the memory would go to about 8100 tops (+550 in AB). Stock voltage at load was 1.225v and max voltage would allow was 1.250v - vOP flag kicks in here.

2nd card I have now with an ASIC quality of 71.2 and due to this the idle voltage is lower by about 10mv, reads 1.216v at load I think. Overclocking this card I have got it to 1610Mhz core and it allows max voltage of 1.261v (due to the lower stock voltage I assume). However the memory on this one craps out with artifacts at +400 or higher (7800MHz) - perhaps this correlates to the stock voltages being lower at load and overclocked voltage higher at load than the 1st card?
Regardless I am happier with the 2nd card as it has lower stock voltage, higher available OC voltage and higher core clock which has pushed my max combined firestrike score to 12058, graphics score: 14339, http://www.3dmark.com/fs/2975770

Both cards have faint coli whine, the 2nd one slightly more pronounced than the first but nothing that bothers me.

Overall they are fantatsic cards, just wanted to share my results with the different ASIC qualities as it is an ongoing debate! Not sure whether the marginally lower performing memory on the 2nd card has anything to do with the ASIC quality and voltages but perhaps it does....

Is anyone finding the fans on Gigabyte G1 970 a bit annoying?

They seem really loud. Gutted that I didn't go with the ASUS passive to 65c cards.

I assumed all of the 970's were passive to 65c.

Yeah, i found them quite loud, even in idle. especially for 60 percent and above. It seems to be an agressive fan profile for the bios

Anyone using K-Boost function in EVGA Precision X? Seems to make overclocks a lot more stable, the downside is it's running at boost clock and whatever the highest voltage is you have set all the time.

Stops the fluctuation in power states, voltages and clocks whilst gaming which I think is causing crashing for some people above certain clocks in certain games.

And then get black listed by the company.

I have a friend who ordered something from OcUK years ago. It never arrived at his address due to his house being in a bit of a maze and tried contacting OcUK when their CS was awful (this was a number of years ago now)

He couldn't get hold of them so called his credit card and told them the above. They refunded the amount and obviously OcUK saw this and black listed his address. (from what he tells me)

If a company wont accept a faulty item back, why would you use them again anyway?

Gibbo is right though. Any whine that can be heard outside the case is a fault. No high end electrical component should suffer from whine unless it is of poor quality or manufactured inadequately.

This is my stance, if you got a quality PSU, your card can be heard audible through the case when gaming and regular usage after a few days we will take it back and test it.
I can't be told off, I am the boss. ;)

P.S. But coil whine that is quiet or barely audible is not a fault, it's inherent in the design. But if a card is like a squealing pig, we will take it back. Any service agent who tries to say otherwise tell them I said so and talk to me if necessary.

Company is under new ownership and management since then, our online ratings are now placing us as no.1 in the uk an improvement from the gutter which has happened with a lot of hard work from myself, 5UB and Bailey along with other management, team effort.

We're now part of a 150+ million turnover group who specialise in gaming pcs, latest hardware and pride ourselves in customer service.

We aspire to be the best and have vastly improved over last few years, particular when Caseking took over nearly three years ago.

Getting hold of people at OcUK is easy now, web note, call us on local rate number or these very forums pretty much around the clock. :)

Just had the screen go black during a 3dmark firestrike test. I'm guessing its the program conflicting with something rather than the card as I could ctrl-alt-del back to desktop, but it scared me at first as the fans stopped on the card as well. Keep forgetting they stop when idle :D.

Yeah I've always had excellent CS support through you guys. Out of interest would his address still be black listed after the change over?

Yesterday I received Galax gtx 970. Inside the box are foot prints. Card was used.
Really guys? Is that your improvement?
