NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

i dont know, the colours are flatter and muted....

Have you set the 970 to full RGB colours?, by default Nvidia cards are set to limited range colours, some sort of driver bug apparently.

..and if you have, turn on Nvidia digital vibrance, it does wonders for colour and vibrancy.

Enjoying my two Galax 970 EX OC's.

They run well, minimal issues thus far - I was getting a lot of flickering on light sources in Titanfall, but forcing Alternate Frame Render method two for game in control panel and it's gone.

They clock to 1474 on the core, though not played much with the memory.

Just need to get them under water - top card hitting over 80C depending on title/load!

Edit: have not noticed any degradation in image quality, but I have made sure I have the nvidia cards to force full colour RGB - in some cases (display connection) nVidia can resort to limited - God alone knows why!

Ah perfect someone with the same card. I take it you have no coil whine? What PSU are you using? What other settings did you use to hit 1474?

I have not noticed any coil whine at all.

Am running on a Superflower 1200W platinum.

I did up the voltage in MSI SB, but I am not actually sure that was needed - or actually did anything.

But will those settings improve the sharpness? I definitely noticed a big difference in sharpness in league of legends where the 7950 was much more vibrant and sharper looking.

oooh i didn't know that i'll take a look cheers m8

done it, yes it looks miles better in Heaven...but it looks like it's a couple of FPS slower...big deal !!!!

Those temps under load are nothing to worry about, especially overclocked.

The cheaper 970s like my inno3Ds actually have target temps of 80C meaning the fan wont speed up unless temps are that high and they consistently sat at 79-81C under load.

Well, I am a bit oversensitive when it comes to temps;p C3 and Metro really make the card sweat at times. To be fair, that brief 77c was only registered by GPU-Z. Afterburner didn't register the GPU reaching such temps. Also, yesterday was kinda stuffy.

The Strix doesn't run that hot most of the time but I'd be more comfortable if it topped out at 73c at the most demanding places in C3 and Metro. Especially that idle temps are perfectly in line with what reviewers were reporting (37-39c).

I tried tinkering with the fan curve in AB but when I set a manual fan profile the fans were spinning at 25% according to GPU-Z, even though I set them to spin up at 50c. Is it just a bug? Idle temps don't go down and I can't hear the fans at all. I guess I'll have to open my case check.

thats right yes ?

well thats dissapointing, ive just orderd 2 970's, in the past i always felt image quality was better on amd but thought things had improved, oh well i will give them a go but keep my 290 just incase im not happy with them

It might just need setting up or a monitor re-calibration. The 290 seems crisper and the colours more vibrant.

I'm sure it's more a setup thing as I have not changed anything just switched cards.

I still prefer the 290 though..... :)

I've always thought that the image quality and colour was better with AMD cards.

Whyscotty confirmed my thoughts when I mentioned it to him too. Glad to see i'm not alone

I've always thought that the image quality and colour was better with AMD cards.

There was a time when that was undoubtedly true, Nvidia cheaped out on the DAC circuits responsible for image quality on some of their earlier cards, but that was like 10yrs ago and were roundly criticised for it.

I remember switching from a Radeon X850XT to an Nvidia 6800GT and could tell the drop in image quality.

But I've seen nothing anywhere of reports of poor image quality with these cards and it's the sort of thing that gets picked up on pretty quickly.

IQ is very subjective anyway, maybe AMD's 'standard' IQ settings are superior and you have to do a bit more tweaking to get the same results on Nvidia cards, but I don't think there is anything at a hardware level causing the perceived lower IQ this time.

Custom fan profiles in AB don't work for me, the fans are just stuck at 25% and won't go up. GPU shot up to 81c in C3;p

Today, with everything on auto temps were about 72-73 in C3 with and without overclock. Removing the side panel only reduced the temps by 1c and made the dreaded electronic noise more intrusive.

I have a GALAX GTX 970 EXOC SLI setup with the cards in adjacent slots due to my motherboard. The other day during an intense gaming session the fans on the inner card stopped, causing my temperatures to increase (luckily I have EVGA Precision X running on my secondary monitor to keep an eye on temps). After shutting down my computer and leaving the card to cool down I removed it to see what the issue was and found that the stickers on the fans had come off, preventing them from spinning. The heat had obviously melted the glue holding them in place.

Anyway, I put the card back in and everything was fine. Seems silly that the stickers should come off so easily. Other than that I'm very happy with them and they're significantly quieter than my previous GTX 680 SLI setup.
