And 2x GTX980s probably better than 3x GTX970s
2 X 980's = 4096 Maxwell Cores
3 X 970's = 4922 Maxwell Cores
TRI 970's > SLI 980's

True but third card scaling in some games is very poor to non existent....
Ooh, I've just spotted this thread, that's handy as I have a 970 now and I'm thinking of SLI.
Quick question, does it need any specific sort of bridge for full SLI 4K gaming or will any old one do (a user in another thread mentioned a possible v2 bridge for 4k gaming?).
I have an Asus and I think an MSI bridge from old motherboards, I can't find the most recent bridge though.
Thanks!
There is no such thing as a V2 bridge someone made it up. If your motherboard allows SLI you should have got one with it.

I have run 3 way SLi since 2009 with 3x GTX 280/470/580/670/780 and now 970's and scaling has only improved every year. So saying a 3rd Cards doesn't give much is very wrong indeed. To run 3 Cards you minimum have to play in 2560x1440. I got another pc with ci7 4930K and GTX 970 SLi and my 3x GTX 970's more often than not are ahead with 60-80FPS in most games
You own 5 970's!
Actually I own 3x Gainward GTX 970. 2x MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G - these cards are in my primary rig. Then for test/benchmarks/reviews I got Palit GTX 970 Jetstream, Asus GTX 970 STRIX, Zotac GTX 970
Total of 8 GTX 970's
What's the best overclock anyone here managed to achieve with the OCUK Reference design GTX 970?
