NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

Hi,

Not sure what you mean by bench score, assuming you mean Heaven I got 110fps with the core at 1.5ghz and that then went up to 116fps when I added the +500 memory overclock.

Something really interesting happened though. I only got 93fps at stock and it was a bit jumpy. When I clocked to +150 the FPS went up a bit but it still felt pretty bad. When I went to +200 it wasn't stable so I put the VCore up by +40mV. All of a sudden it was silky smooth and ran much better.

I read somewhere about voltage issues on the second card in SLI, I wonder whether that's what I had and putting a voltage offset on has somehow resolved it?

Either way if you are on stock core voltage try putting just +10 mV on the core and see if anything happens... ?

Run a bench mark at stock settings, and leave your voltage offset alone. Have a look at the afterburner monitoring window and check that your core clock on both cards are solid during the bench.

Nothing should be jumpy at stock settings.

Yep, it's solid. Didn't seem as bad this time either. Maybe something was going on in the background!

Still suspect your CPU may have been at 3.4 unless you have an older version that reports differently

whats the gray screen when clocking is it memory ? as in benches i was fine but when i played a csgo for a while got grey screen and clocks reverted back to normal ?

increased mv+10 decreased mem clocks to 1950 and core 1550 , seems to be ok for the moment.

or is it because i play csgo at low settings and voltage fluctuates slower then clock speed? also increased min fps in csgo from 130 to 155 hopefully will be aright now .

My CPU is definitely @ 4.4. My version of Heaven was downloaded nearly 2 years ago!

I ordered the MSI G4 Gaming around 1pm today with free next day shipping (thx for that), I can't wait for her to arrive.

Crazy. :p
I'm guessing you where giving some for review purposes?

Yea the Asus and Palit :)

Which ones your favourite?
how do you rate the Strix?

My favorite are the Gainward cards - they are not the best OC'er or the quietest of the bunch, but the price/performance ratio they offered right out of the box at the time and the OC potential while being fairly quiets even with 3 stacked together - that made them pure winners in my optic.

Else coming in real close in the Palit GTX 970 Jetstream - basically the same card as Gainward (Gainward owns Palit company), but the cooler is amazing and it's dead silent and coilwhine I haven't noticed even the tiniest from. Fans start to spin at 68°c and not many game make this card go above this so it's very quiet in the majority of games. And when the fans spin they sound equal to the MSI cards. The OC potential is not as high as the MSI cards but the price is also a lot cheaper.

The card I least like is the Asus GTX 970 Strix. Cooling isn't that great compared to the MSI cards which isn't as bulky and the fans when they spin have an annoying whooosh sound. Also my example sufferes from not exactly coilwhine but a buzzing noise. Also way too pricy and don't feel as solid as MSI cards.

MSI GTX 970 are superb cards and I do like them a lot, but the price I paid for these if felt was much to high compared to what I got with the like of Gainward or Zotac card. I do understand many choose these cards because the are probably the best allrounders both regarding to noise, cooling and OC potential. But the price is still at bit to high for my liking.

Zotac GTX 970 - the little one that offers decent cooling, decent noise, decent OC potential and a super low price. Was a tough contender to Gainward and I like this little card for mATX or ITX builds. I do recommend it, just don't expect wonders but solid performance.

The best all rounder as far as I am concerned is the Gigbayte cards. Especially the G1.

I can only tell after this weekend. Picking up the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 tomorrow at the P.O. But it will never be as silent as the MSI in idle (0dba). Still I think it's an expensive card - might be one of the best OC'ers and such.... but price/performance wise it doesn't hold up that well.... especially not when you can get a Galax GTX 970 for £222 in Denmark.

just want to post it here, at default, my 1st Galax GTX 970 HOF can boost to 1455.5Mhz when gaming, what a monster!
Feel free to tell me about your boost clock guys!

I have this card in my tower avenger predator, the case has 5 fans in it It runs at 36dbh, only audible if you open the table door and listen carefully. That's the fan on my cpu that I will change. I run the gigabyte gpu all the time at a overclock of 1.531 and 500 memory and I have not heard my gpu card 1 time. And 36 dba is very quiet though I will be going water cool on it but im expecting to go lower a tiney bit that 36dba, 30 bda would be great. Either way your not gona hear you graphic card if its a gigabyte cause even on this quiet system I doubt id here the card till I got to 26 dba. Basicly I don't think you need to take sound as a consideration on the 970s, unless your unlucky enough to get the ones that wine maybe. Im just glad I bought this card cause at 1500 or over its rocking the same as a stock 980 near enough, and coming from a incredibly noisy 5870 ati im just overjoyed. That was like a jet air plane. I just hope when summer comes I don't have to put some stronger fans on lol.

I have run 3 way SLi since 2009 with 3x GTX 280/470/580/670/780 and now 970's and scaling has only improved every year. So saying a 3rd Cards doesn't give much is very wrong indeed. To run 3 Cards you minimum have to play in 2560x1440. I got another pc with ci7 4930K and GTX 970 SLi and my 3x GTX 970's more often than not are ahead with 60-80FPS in most games:cool:

im jelly I can only afford the one 970.

Had my Strix in for nearly a week and I am in love <3 it so silent it's ridiculous! I only game at 1080p but it means that I can run Shadow of Mordor completely maxed out and it runs smother than anything I have ever seen!

Stoner81.

Has anyone replaced their TIM on their 970? Tempted to change the stock stuff on my G1 if it makes a noticeable difference?

Looks like my card will arrive today according to DPD, I can't wait. What sort of overclock numbers am I looking at with stock voltage?
