NVIDIA GTX 970 OWNERS THREAD

Wow at the amount of effort you put in for that. Thank you very much. Seems minimum FPS different is not a great deal and maximum is circa 4 and maximum of 8.

Its interesting you managed 7800 on your Hynix as I only managed 7640 whereas the Samsung seems a consistent 8000. Your testing does show however, that memory clock doesn't make a massive difference in comparison to core clock speed.

Out of interest which of your cards has the higher asic score?

Not a massive difference at all.I also owned a pair of 980GTX SLI and those cards memory hit 8000+ no problem at all.

Here you go.

Has anybody seen a problem where after hours of gaming, the core, memory and voltagewill just drop, and nothing you do can change it other than a reboot. Ive been getting this about once every 4hours of gaming in average since i biught my galax 970 on xmas eve... Think its ginna have to be an rma thiugh i worry that the quick checks they do wont detect it. Any help gratefully received .. Is there a way to update bios on galax cards officially?

P.s and when i say drop the voltage goes to 1.0370v, Core 539.8mhz and memory 1502.3mhz

Are you overclocking it at all? If so perhaps too much?

It is yes, only +65mhz core, but +500memory. If it was that as an issue wouldnt it show an error though, and let me reset clocks after? It always drops to the exact same clocks too when it does

Thing is ive ran valley benchmark for 8hours no problem, and this happens when playing CS which doesnt always use 100% of gpu even. I guess ill try at stock before rma-ing

need a bit of advice here if anyone can be kind enough to help me...

I'm running on a 2500k with a 6950 but i'm looking to upgrade my GPU to either a 290 (as they are going quite cheap these days) or should I spend the cash and purchase a 970?

I have a 2500K @ 4.7 and just went from a 280X to a 970 G1 OC, couldn't be happier! :)

Ive had a problem that causes the screen to go black, give a message of 'no display signal' followed by a whole system crash. Happened 4 times today and seems to be getting worse.

The last hard reset I did from this also ended with me getting ridiculous lag in everything, opening and closing web browsers and other windows were fading in and out on execution, I ran MSI Kombuster and whilst it was saying I was getting 120fps there was some evident lag going on and I noticed the power output was 35%. Restarted normally and its back working again.

This is incredibly frustrating! Lots of people having this issue but noones found a fix.

Is this not a time to be waiting just that bit longer ?

I keep looking but then think wait the 960 out soon and see what it does and price and what price the 970 ends up .. cant go up can it ?

That post from Gibbo suggests that prices may increase but for how long and by how much is anyone’s guess, I personally doubt we’ll see a big increase anytime soon on 970’s but (other than deals) I doubt we’ll see any reductions either.

It can be dangerous to play the waiting game if all your after is an upgrade, all you really end up doing is spending ages with nothing as there’s always something new just around the corner.

I noticed this when playing CS,with an OC active,i have read elsewhere its summit to do with the power states,i went into control panel and set power management to 'prefer maximum performance',stoped these issues for me in games that dont push the card(say sub 60% usage) which leads to clocks dynamically changing speeds(and power state)

Alternately you can just not enable the OC when you play games like CS:GO that dont push the card .

This is odd
A few of my friends have been experiencing these exact same issues in BFBC2 and Arma 3,they are all on 700 series cards however(760,780 and 780ti) and running them at out the box clocks

I had it once in Arma 3,i wasnt running my OC at the time tho.I just assumed its an issue with the latest driver.

id just try and find which driver works for you . personally the drivers havent been good of recent from nvidia.

i personally find 344.11 the best but still has a few issues.

Can anyone recommend which would be the better card out of the Palit Jetstream or the Inno3D if overclocking isn't a consideration? Not for me but someone who can just stretch to £260 for a new card.

Well unless I'm missing something the Palit Jetstream is is £289, so for under 260 the only option is the Inno3d.

But to answer the question; the Palit Jetstream comes with a slightly higher factory clock speed, so would be considered slightly 'better'. Both manufacturer's produce good cards so the only other thing between them would be looks. (I prefer the Inno3d).

The Palit is available at that price but I would prefer to buy from OC if I end up acting as 'agent' :). I prefer the look of the Inno3D too but wasn't entirely sure if the Palit's cooler was much quieter.
