Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

What make is your psu, there should be definitely at least one 8 pin pcie cable as the windforce 780 rev1 uses 1x6 and 1x8 pin cable, 2x8 on the rev 2, (have one of each revision here). Do the 6 pin cables not have an extra 2 pins that split away from the block of 6?

I mustve read your post wrong agnes, (need coffee as not fully awake):o. Cant see it making much difference, my two cards run similair clocks at stock or oc'd, despite the differing power requirements.

Pretty sure those two extra pins are both ground pins to conform with the PEG standard. You can buy an adapter 6 to 8 pin if you need to.

Technically you can pull double the recommended (2x75w = 150w) from a single six pin connector. It just doesn't conform to manufacturing standards.

Just out of interest

Has anybody looked at/thought about the Inno3D 980's?

I have had great results with my boss ultra. Whilst it is a big card, it never gets above 64c even under heavy load from bench marks.
Also clocked stable at 1539 AB but hits 1570 on stock voltages.
Skyrim with all the HD textures and DSR scaling not above 54... and idles at 33

All metal as well with a back plate..

Just sticking that out there...

Increasing power limits, better control of voltage at various boost states, increasing boost clocks eliminating the need for software overclocks. I've modded the bios for my old EVGA 980 SC, my 970 G1 Sli's and now my Ichill 980's.

Recently took delivery of my Gigabyte G1 :) Had an issue with the standard windforce model (Vram causing artifacting even with a mild bump in clocks)

This one does 1540/7800 @1.218 (stock). A voltage or power limit increase doesn't seem to do much for it (in fact it probably makes matters worse)

My G1 arrived today ! Chip quality 82.3%...
Not had a chance to OC or play games with it yet as my three year old son is watching "In the night garden" back to back & shouting at me every time I go near it !!!

Only neg I can see is it has a small knock on the backplate, its been sprayed over so it was before the fitting ?

Bring on BF4 later once kids on bed...
