Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

i didn't want SLI, but one card didn't cut it.

This was an upgrade (in size) from my previous mITX rig in which i had a dual GPU 690. I always prefer one physical card. Thinking about going 295 or waiting to see what comes out.

I haven't water-cooled for years as i move my machine around and had issues in the past. It's looking like £500-600 to fully water cool my rig. Might aswell sell these and get a titan x or a 980ti

I'm really gutted that my Step-Up from EVGA was only an ACX 2.0 version, and not a reference design. Kinda wish I'd just gone for the 980 1st instead of taking the 970 middle ground step first. Oh well. My case seems fine cooling wise, tonnes of space in there. Just the reference design looks so damn sexy :(

Anyone with an EVGA ACX 2.0 done any overclocking? What can I expect to get one of these beauties up to? Should be arriving via UPS on Friday :D

Decided to have a play with Valley as i've not tried that before and managed this.

Galax 980 GTX under water
1617 core
4037 memory

Pretty happy with that result. That's the highest i've managed with the memory so far.

Ok

I have had enough

I need to stop my card down volting below 1 volt. If that means a bios flash, so be it.

So any advice would be helpful

Also

If I Kboost my card to 1500 MHz, should I ensure I remove it after each game session? if not (I forget) what is the long term damage?

Guys, I've just been playing the witcher 3. My screen went black and there was a puff of smoke coming from my G1!

What in the living god? it won't post now obviously. I've just built myself a 5960x system so this is all I need :(.
Haven't had it overclocked and got water cooling for my cpu / and several fans for my pc so it's not hot in the case.

Does it beep at all?

Is there an LED indication on the MB to say it has any power?

Can you check your kettle lead in another device? (blown fuse)

Is your PSU firing up?

However smoke of any sort is never a good sign :(

My board seems to be powering fine as the status codes are ticking round. I tried powering the machine again and more smoke came out of the gtx card. Rma time again :(

Yeah I would remove and not try it again as it could do damage to your rig.

RMA it.

It sounds as though this is not the first RMA?

is the referance gtx board the same layout as a titan board?
just wondering because im after fitting an aftermarket cooler on my ref gtx as it throttles a lot at stock clocks and i have to have fans on really loud to keep it cool and saw that the gelid icy coolers fit the titan,so wondering if it fits the 980.

Just thought I would post to say that I have now moved away from a hacked custom bios and am now using the EVGA 980 Hydro stock bios.

I have been impressed with the performance and stability and am going to stick with it.

I can recommend if running a reference 980 with water-blocks.

I'm seriously considering going SLI this year, however can two different brands of cards work together? Such as MSI 980 GTX and an EVGA 980 GTX AX2.0?

They'll work together just fine, but bear in mind that they'll only clock to the lowest clocking card unless you use Afterburner etc. Also worth mentioning that 2 non reference cards will push a lot of heat into your case, so be prepared for extra cooling....

Going SLi for my 2nd PC.
One Asus GTX 980 STRIX DirectCU II OC 4GB and hopefully monday or tuesday at the post office, I will be picking up a Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 Gaming 4GB which I got for £312.
