Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Ahhhhh, mine turned up :D:D..
Stepped up from the 970 and wasn't sure what to expect. Result was awesome. BF4 on ultra at 1080p is much better. The minimums are up from 57 to 79 on Zavod with a average of 111 and max of 145.. :).

Looking forward to continuing to put this through its paces.

Hi there

Could do with a bit of advice. I could do with a new graphics card atm and the 980 seems to be the best you can get at the moment for a single gpu solution. Really I want the 980ti (or a 390X if it's good) but I'm unsure when that is coming out now. I keep seeing reports that it could be delayed until 2016 so if true that's a long time to wait! (correct me if I am wrong)

So a 980 would do me in the meantime. I game at 1440p and play BF4 mainly so I presume one of these cards would give me a decent frame rate on ultra settings x2 AA?

I normally watercool my cards but as these run cool anyway and I was thinking of getting something like the Gigabyte G1. Would there be any advantage in putting a water block on one as from what I can see they all seem to hit a wall of roughly 1550Mhz/8000Mhz.

I'd appreciate some help as getting new graphics card is doing my head in lately! lol

The WF cooler should be enough. My card has peaked at 71c and that's with Unity on Ultra @ 1440p. I haven't got round to testing BF4 yet, so can't help there.

Do you find the fans loud under heavy load? As loud fans are something I definitely don't want. I like my silent rig. :D

I presume idle you wont be able to hear it (I would not of thought so).

It does look a beefy cooler on the G1 which is one of things that appealed to me, plus it's meant to be one of the best clockers.

If I can get away with not watercooling for once it would help (£100 or there abouts saved), as the card is pretty expensive for what it is being a mid-range card, albeit a very good example.

:)

Water block ordered, went with the Thermosphere this time for two reasons.

The SOC doesn't have a full cover block :( but on the bright side I can use this block on others cards if/when I upgrade in the future.

I've just watched all those videos today and will make it a proper oc experience for tonight....

Out of interest Neil

My fire Strike will not accept an increased power target.

My max clock and memory is firmly fixed at 1520 CC 1902 for Memory

increasing the power target above 102 causes a crash/black screen every time even at lower clocks. Leaving it at stock it is very stable.... (my heaven OC is 1540 CC 1943 so Fire Strike is very picky)

Hope this helps

Asus 980 strix and an EK block ordered.
For a total new system build :)

I have also been AMD for ages and had been balancing 290v980 purchase for the better part of 6 weeks.

Ended up getting the reference 980. So happy with what's been delivered, build quality of the Titan cooler is just gobsmacking and I couldn't be happier with it. Can't wait to get it in my rig when I get home from work.

How do you measure ASIC quality? Time will tell if I chose well, came from SLI 970 G1 Gaming so I'm aware I won't see as bigger clocks on a reference non-SOC

GPUz, right click on the window somewhere and there is the option at the bottom.

Remote logged into my home PC and have been tweaking the bios a bit more. Will give it a run when I get home tonight
