Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

hello

I have some questions about my 980

I have a highest benchmark OC of (recorded in GPU-Z) of 1439-1540

My monitor on both AB and GPU-Z give me a reported boost under load of 1565

My volts are a consistent 1.2060 at this clock

However this is at stock volts and power

My bios is pretty much the same as the EVGA GM204 bios that come with Maxwell tweak, apart from 3 entries on the voltage table that have no assigned CLK to the the boost table

What is stopping my GPU going higher than the current base clock?

Anything over 1540 on the CC and it crashes, Any power or volts other than stock and it crashes, any memory increase over 1940 and it crashes.

Have I reached the absolute ceiling of my 980 (it is still very impressive mind you (heaven 1997)

But does seem strange that it absolutely hates power and voltage increases at the high end of my over clocks. Clock s I can accept, however it is stable in Heaven and my Fire strike OC as long as I don’t touch it.

Also should this be bumped to the OC forum?

Cheers

Each card is different and I take it you have edited your own bios?

GPUz reports no Perfcap issues I presume so your not being limited by the power of the card or voltages. If that is the case then you have reached the limit of your card.

Voltage monitoring doesn't work with the 980 so anything software reports isn't accurate. You need to use a multi meter to properly check the voltage

Hi James

Well managed to get Perfcap readings.

Get intermittent Vrel and Pwr.

I am still hitting 1996 on heaven and it is very stable, no throttling at all and card sits at 64c as does the CPU

so I think I have hit the top. Very pleased though! :)

Guys, how do I add more voltage to my card?

Hitting 35 degrees max after loops of Heaven, so want to increase the voltage as I'm hitting a wall at 1500/2000.

Did you edit your bios? I've got to 1633 core so far.

Only through editing the bios and only then the max is 1.31v - 1.32v

No

I am not confident enough to do that. So will stick with what I have. My boost under load is sitting quite happily (6 completed bench marks) at 1578 and I will never need anymore than 1400 I suspect (don't let me down Rockstar)

But it has been a fun couple of weeks :)

Cheers for the help all...

Yes, I have the Hydro Copper.

Idles at 22, with my heating on it gets to low 40's at the most, during the day when the heating is off it doesn't go much above 35.

I miss my 290X's heating my man cave. :p
