I can not understand why people pay all this money for graphics cards just to get a few more points in benchmarks. when you play games there is no difference in game play at all until you put the frame counter on but that makes no difference to the game

Sometimes it's not about playing games, it's about wanting the best, pushing the boundaries of compute power just becuase you can, I never see it as wasting money, i feel I've contributed into research and development of one of my favourite hobbies.

I must admit I'm not much of a bencher but when I do get a card I love pushing it to see how much it will score and then I get the itch to upgrade again or other components. Just bought a 970 and could have a 980 on the way if I'm in luck :p

I'd buy a good watercooling setup if I didn't change cards like the wind changes direction.

It does make a difference when you run flat out with no VSync enable with the likes of GSYNC, once you see how smooth running at higher refresh rates are you will never game the same, games look new again and player experience is way better. More performance the merrier :D

:) I hear you, thats why I just use a NZXT G10, can't rate them enough! I got two stored away just incase they stop making them 8)

Interesting, this is the reason I don't watercool as I tend to change cards every 3-6 months.

Anyway I've done some comparisons to my old 290 Tri-X stock and OC below:

Obligatory comparison shot, quite a bit smaller!:

So impressive when you consider it uses ~80 watts less under load.

That doesn't apply to everyone though, a lot of people game beyond 1080P. So I agree with you as in any GPU from the past few years will be ok for 1080P gaming.

If you're at 1440P, 4K, or some setup of multiple displays you need all the performance you can get, especially if you don't want a dual card setup. This 980 is def a notch above my older ones, really nice performance @ 1440P. I'm still waiting for a single card that can max out Crysis 3 @ 1440P, not there yet but getting closer every year :p

We don't mind a bit of air-porn around here. Even if it's not real porn. :p

That's how you bypass a loop BTW dangel ;) x

Hehe nice! TBH I use taps in mine because it lets me shut off bits of the loop dynamically - i.e. I plug them in where required and remove them when rebuilding it. Externally the rad and res are both easy to close off so there's very little water in the blocks/case itself.

Can you get quick disconnects on really short runs of pipe ok? I think I would struggle between the CPU and the first GPU in my case.

BTW I'm using a 4 x 120mm rad for 2 cards and the CPU - coped fine with the 670's and these should be a little cooler.
