Nvidia recognises 10gb isn't enough - RTX3080 gets a VRAM upgrade

I would start a benchmark thread for Forza 5, but it'll just get derailed and trolled into oblivion and the dons will do sweet f all about it. :p

As long as you don't gimp the settings to suit a certain brand, I don't think you'll encounter any backlash.

Would expect AMD to do better since I think they have always performed better in forza games? Although not sure what the story is with ray tracing in this? i.e. only car reflections is it?

I actually laughed out loud.
Swap me a 6800XT for a 3080 and people will have to take you seriously :p
I would actually do that, since I could add to the 'games list'. :D

Alas as much as I've tried to get one, I've not been able to and I've been trying for a long time for a FE 3080.

I thought the game had RT due to the screenshot Poneros posted, but honestly not sure.

Forza is one of those games that looks nice and I benchmark, but whenever I start playing it I get bored within 30 minutes. So for me its always been a benchmark game and thats it.

I might be selling my 6900 XT, so may not even be able to benchmark this game anyway and dominate the leader boards again as with Forza 4. Considering moving down to a 6800 XT until the next AMD GPU, depends if i can stomach the 20-25% lower performance vs the Toxic Extreme.

Ray tracing quality – This only affects whether car models in the Forza Vista viewing mode use ray-traced reflections, or the standard cube map-based reflections you’ll see in the main game. As explained above, ray tracing can afford a minor level of extra detail, and because you don’t need sky-high frame rates for a viewing mode, it’s worth leaving this setting on High.

Hah took me about 7 months to get the FE which is waterblocked in my gaming PC. Luckily I managed to get an Eagle in November which has been relegated to mining duty since getting the FE. :p

i mean, you seem like a experienced, long time standing PC user. did you really caught off guard by one reflection or two? those kind of reflections on cars you can see in gta 4 and gta lcs (im not even kidding). clearly tons of raster alternative methods do quite good work, as evidenced by you caught offguard by it

fh4 had tons of reflections like that.

fh5 has a ray tracing option, but that only works in 'forza vista' mode, where you can observe the car's details in its full glory

relevant reflection video from fh4 (im pretty sure they improved it even further in fh5)

https://youtu.be/17wnFEC5R5c?t=106

stuff like this proves that rt is unnecessary at times, traditional methods just work at times

In one of the videos someone posted could see Ray Tracing quality option in the menu

A google check:

'Although ray tracing isn't available during standard Forza Horizon 5 gameplay, the effects are available in Forzavista, a car exploration mode that lets users check out the vehicles in close detail'

LOL!!

His loss :o probably won't be able to play games from next year anyway.

:D
Not had a single issue, but will try and snap up a 3070 Ti 16GB soon, that way I can join the bandwagon of 10GB is not enough

It will be fun actually. I can imagine some peoples reaction once I get the card and start saying that :p

why did he do that? im out of loop

my point stands, 8 gb will be okay for non ray tracing 1080p going forward, i suspect 4050ti will introduce 8 gb to the low-end 1080p gaming market

I sold my 3080 for £1600+ to CEX and 3070 was the first FE I got hold of after that sale. So far I have not felt like I have missed out on anything personally. But will see if I can grab a 3070 Ti 16GB which may have better resale value also when next gen cards hit as I will be upgrading again when they do :)

Well I'd seen the option in the video menu screen so assumed it would be in the game, then the screenshot made me think that must be it.

I agree though, Forza is a game where high FPS is a must so it would not make sense to add it. From the video Wringly posted, the FPS look lower this time and that's without RT.

Curious to see now what the 6900 XT can do in this game.

I dont see the need for the missing out syndrome! :p I think the context here is what res you enjoy gaming at, and 4k reasonable settings means a wimpy card aint gonna cut it. You are getting a monster next gen so I wouldnt waste my time on a Ti at all seeing as you have lasted months on the 3070!!

The lord works in mysterious ways!

The scalper/entrepreneur works in methodical ways!

Won’t be a waste though. At worst I will get what I paid for the 3070 and the same likely will be the case with the 3070 Ti. At least people won’t um and ah if it has enough vram when buying it :p

Hell, I may even end up with another 3080 if it is £649 as that would likely even have been better resale value. Not like I will be out of pocket whichever I go ;)

FYI as you know I game at 4K60 and the only game I am playing now where I have to tone down settings a bit is Flight Simulator 2020. Rest run no issues whatsoever. To be honest I do not even think I would notice much difference with the higher settings anyway. Go watch the HUB review where they compare Ultra with Very High, not exactly much difference. You know this stuff all to well though, just become a bit snobby now that you have a 3090 :p:D;)

3070 is going down the 770 route get it out of your hand while you can

same for 3080 - 780 though
In this market I personally think it would still sell. But who knows if it will still be the same next year when it is time to flog it when next gen cards come out. Hence better to get rid now if the opportunity presents itself.

What do you guys think, go 3080 12GB (if £649 like 3080 FE was) or 3070 Ti 16GB?

I'd go for 70ti 16GB because I think it will be cheaper and ultimately I know I can make good use of the extra vram. If it were the same price it would be a much tougher decision, probably go for 3080 12GB. But it depends on what the actual price is too, I mean the real price not msrp b s. £649 is just fantasy-level atm.

Get a 3080 10GB because 10GB is enough;)

Yeah, let’s see how it goes. Even if I can manage to get it I am still happy with my 3070. Only 12 months or so left for next gen anyways.
