NVIDIA Volta with GDDR6 in early 2018?

Amd need to hurry up were already getting info about Volta yet we've got Pascal 1080 Ti and TXP which is close to twice as fast as amds current best

volta looks to be 3 generations ahead of vega comfortably. suffice to say amd wont be able to compete with NVidia for years to come.
hopefully high end vega will come in at under 300 quid

sheer ignorance indeed. Tyler already said it, which is why i didn't bother replying to you VincentHanna. Clearly can't have a sensible discussion so i won't bother trying.
It's you that has sheer ignorance. PS4 Pro has managed it with even weaker hardware. It uses checkerboard rendering mostly but the Scorpio has much more powerful hardware so that's a testament to what to expect from the scorpio. People including my self was very surprised to see the PS4 pro even managing that sort of rendering.

So you have obviously been out of the loop. I'm a technology fanboy i try to keep updated with most things. You obviously do not, so don't be so pretentious.

20 TFLOPS is very optimistic if we compare P100 vs GP102 for TFLOPs.
GV100 is runnign at about 1.5GHz on a massive 810mm chip. Consumer Volta wont be that large, wont have the Fp64 bagagge and will have more a relatively higher FP32 increase. 20TFlops is realistic, somewhere between 17 and 22 would be possible.

All depends on clock speed.108 does abut 11.3 TFPOLs at the base clocks but will typically boost at least 20% higher and can give 13-14TFLOPs when boosting high/overclocked. Gp100 doesn't boost like that.

My viewpoint is if Volta is released this year it will be for a commercial card

Hmm.

Sure those sound nice, but then you look at the size 812mm2 compared to P100's 610mm2.

Only for the Tesla, in the form of the DGX-1 racks, and Q4 and early 2018 for the normal Tesla version.

So basically all the people here were expecting a gaming card to be announced now,and I like I said it would probably be a compute card considering they are moving onto a new node.

Hello GV100 ! Good bye Vega.
Nvidia steals the light consumer side without having to public announce a consumer card :)
Expect to wake up tomorrow with all the guessing for the Big Volta chip after seeing the
Tesla Table stat counts

Least hope they don't kill off the potential with voltage like pascal ....

Don't think anyone was expecting a gaming card to be announced?

People were speculating that a Volta based GPU might be released by the end of this and the release would have nothing to do with AMD. Today's events only make that speculations stronger. Now confirmed that Volta GV100 by the end of the year as previously suspected, Xavier powered by Volta with release in September as previously stated at Q3 by Nvidia. Pascal GPUs were released by volume production of drive PX2 powered by a Pascal GPU. So yes, Q4 rleease of a Volta 0280 type card is a distinct possibility. Hynix have state they are supplying GDDR6 for a 384bit GPU early next year, i.e. a Titan Volta.

You would have to be pretty brave to bet that there wont be a Volta GPU by the time the year is out.

Lots were going by the comments and its logical going onto a new node, etc they would try and maximise their return. Unless AMD Vega is very competitive with Pascal upto the GTX1080TI,there is little reason for them to replacing whole lines in a few months.

I didn't deny that one might be released but unlike some who are getting too excited,I said it was more likely to be a commercial card, especially considering the costs of moving to a new node and memory, etc.

Plus the last big change on the gaming side with Maxwell, had the pipecleaner GM107 launch over 8 months earlier. Nvidia had just released the GTX780TI around three months earlier.

It is also brave for people to think the GTX1080TI would be replaced within six to nine months from launch - not even the GTX980TI was superseded in less than 12 months and that was on the arse end of 28NM.

This has happened for years now in CPU and GPU threads - companies and rumours are published yonks before the parts are released, and all of a sudden people here expect a three month old CPU or GPU design will be suddenly replaced in a few months. People on this very forum thought Sandy Bridge would be replaced in the same year it was launched by Ivy Bridge just because Intel talked about it a few months after launch.

Edit!!

Plus if a Volta high end card is being released "so soon" that it really means you might as well not bother with a GTX1080TI now if it is replaced in like 5 months.
