OcUK Dieters Progress Thread

I'm actually a bit surprised by some of my more recent losses as I haven't had time to exercise really over the last week and a half. I've been playing a football match at the weekends and walking from Waterloo to Euston and back around 3 times a week for uni. I think the big change has been making most of my own food now, before I used to eat all store bought ready meals. Also been eating honey and sultana oat cereal for breakfast when I never had breakfast before.

I've cut out a fair bit of the alcohol aswell. My only drinks over the last week were about 5 pints on Saturday for my mates birthday.

I think overall I'm benefitting from having raised my metabolism over the last month with the regular eating combined with the weights and running I've been doing at the gym.

I've put on a couple of pounds over the weekend .. not at all surprised as I'm having to increase my calorie intake to kick start my metabolism again anyway :p

Going to ignore my weight the next week or so as I KNOW it's going to go up but then I should hopefully start seeing a loss again :)

Have my Body Pump class tonight at 8pm but I'm going to the gym a little earlier to get some cardio on the Cross Trainer done before the class

Read through this over the last couple of days, som good progress. For the people getting down, take a gander at this page: http://www.johnstonefitness.com/all/front/m.php

Just shows what can be done with some hard work and discipline.

Anyways, think now would be a good time to join in the fun.....

Currently sat at 13st 11lb as best as I can tell with these dodgy scales. I've lost a lot of fat over the lat 6 months so I'm told, though the scales don't seem to have done much. People are often asking if I've lost weight, so I think it shows that to look better you don't have to see that needle move that much ! That's aimed at you Piggy :)

I've not got a target weight, just intend to keep going till I'm happy.

Question for Gordy whilst I'm at it. Going the 'eat a little often' route, I'm eating one of those Nutrigrain bars every 2 or 3 hours as something to keep me going, and hopefully stop my matabolism from slowing. That sound ok? They're about 150 cals.

Anyways, keep up the work guys.

Well I've just done my monday weigh-in and I'm a pound down. It's pretty hard to stay motivated with 1 pound lost in about 5 weeks :( I'm taking comfort in the fact that none of my clothes fit me any more and the cockatiel is wolf whistling more than usual.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and join the gym.

just got back from the gym, did a good workout out on the treadmill I did the navy test and it said i claimed 17 feet.

spent 15 mins in Steam Room and 15 mins in Sauna

Good luck!

Laughed at the cockatiel comment!

Well done on your loss :) Better than nothing at all! Stop getting downhearted.

Gym will really help though, especially if you're not getting an awful lot of exercise right now. The gym is what helps me, rather than controlling my food intake. If I just dieted, I'd lose hardly anything. However, I can eat healthily (no diet for me!!) and go to the gym, and lose weight. Makes you feel loads better too, and gives you more energy (after you've got over the initial shock to the system).

I lost 2lbs according to the work weigh in this week. It's lies, because I trust my home scales more, but I'm happy with that.

Really enjoyed Body Pump tonight , getting into it more and not messing up with my weights .. starting to remember what is coming next :)

Also I did 10 mins on the Cross Trainer and 5 mins on the bike before the class

When I was going to the Gym early part of last year I couldn't go through 10 mins on the x trainer without slowing down half way through ... tonight was the first time I've been on one in a good 10 months and I went through the whole 10 mins without stopping :D

I might have put weight on but my fitness levels have certainly improved :)

Anyone got any views on this?

Most of it will be water weight mate, you will have lost a little fat but theres nothing you can do to keep it off completely since it will go back on naturally as your body rehydrates.

Hi mate,

How long will this weight take to come back on? I weighed myself yesterday (a week since being ill) and the scales were flickering between 14.5 / 6. So it seems that I've only put a pound on in weight since my body was empty, that's some serious weight loss!

The scales were in the exact same place as previously, and I got on and off the scales 4 times to make sure. I've been getting a few comments saying my skin looks healthier and I dont look as chubby as before.

Also, last Friday night I got more female attention than normal ;) Things are looking up :D

diets going to take a back seat today as I'm out for a meal etc.

incidentally my training workout looks like this atm:

Squats
SLDL
Lunges
Deadlifts
Barbell Rows
Pull Ups
Bench
Dips
Weighted decline Crunches

All with low reps (6) 3 working sets and 2 warm up sets (30% then 60%)
after a weights day i do 25mins low intensity stationary bike. I also train on 2 more days at high intensity for 15-20 mins.

I've upped my calorie intake slightly as this is quite gruelling for me to get through but i seem to be getting results and the heavy core work is doing wonders for my midsection.

Why don't you try fruit/raw veg rather than a bar? Much better for you, takes more energy for your body to digest and helps you get towards your daily 5. The little and often rule is supposed to be applied to meals iirc, so snacking often doesn't really count. From what I can tell, you should be eating 5-7 small meals per day. What you're doing is just snacking on a sugar-filled bar. I'm still on 3 meals per day, but I have an orange/apple or some raw carrot when I feel hungry through the day.

However, I'm no diet guru, so we'll wait for advice from one of our resident experts :)

Lets get it on.

woo, just been on a long bike ride to get some lights for my bike so i can start biking to work tomorrow at 5:30 am, cant wait to get into biking again, Its great for you and its FREE and as fast as driving a car sometimes.

Oh, forgot my update. Tried going back to the gym today after having a nasty cold since last Saturday. Managed a 10 min warm up and 20 mins on the cross trainer, but I was sniffing about every 10 seconds, and I couldn't breathe properly because it was tiring me out so much. Didn't even bother trying the treadmill, as it'd be even worse. Really annoyed with this bloody cold. I want to get on, and I'm all motivated, but I just can't do it at the moment. It's driving me mad

I'm still eating healthy etc., but with every day that I can't go to the gym, I get more and more upset/annoyed that it's going to stop all the good work I've done :( Wish it would just go away! I never get colds for this long, and I've been taking multivits and eating tonnes of fruit/veg. I just can't seem to shake it though.

I've got loads of them knocking around, so trying to get rid of them. Coupled with not being overly keen on fruit, it made sense. Wouldn't imagine there's that much sugar in them, but never looked tbh.

As for the meals, the way I work it's not possible for me to have small meals (I don't often get breaks tbh) so figured this was better than nothing. Does anyone know if there's a minumum number of calories needed per sitting in order to stop the metabolism from slowing?
