**OcUK Extreme Haswell bundle - A review!**

Can try adjusting llc to tighten up the vcore if its not stable, though if temps are good jist give vcore a small nudge up.

1 4v got me 5.1, truely hit a wall on that one, even a small test at 1.44v 5.2ghz wouldn't post. Will have to see why even a 0.01mhz base increase stops the system posting too then get increasing that.

With 8 packs help I managed 2400 c8 & 2933 c12 too!

I'm up to 4.9GHz on Air now running perfectly fine at 1.32v and cool temps, the CPU struggles at 5GHz under load even with extra volts. I don't really want to stress it out at over 1.4v just for a small gain.

Its weird for me stability between 4.9 and 5 GHz is like day and night difference.

Other than cooling in accordance with temps, CPU Vcore and CPU RING is there much more I can do to stabilise things?

Did you upgrade the ram to 16gb ? if so did you have to alter anything in the overclock.
Im getting this kit in 2 weeks, the only thing putting me off is the fact it comes with 8gb of ram as apposed to the normal 16gb most people have, as I do myself already ?

Could you recommend a ram upgrade for this (not to costing to much ) is it better to get x2 8gb sticks or x4 4gb sticks? or is it possible to get another set of ram that matches the one installed.
when I get mine I wont be stressing the system (mostly bf3 4 when it comes out, world of warcraft Diablo 3 and a ton of other steam games)what so ever just playing games and some browsing.

Cheers

If all you're doing is playing games, 8gb is fine, though if yoi are after more I'd suggest you buy soon due to the price hike that's about to happen after the hynix fire.

I would say 2x8gb would have less of an impact over 4x4gb on the overclock due to only populating 2 banks vs 4.

Sorry I should have clarified, at the same time as playing games I got winamp going, as well as several websites open at the same time, as well as TeamSpeak going, I do quite a lot at the same time to be honest.

And in most cases you can tell the overall speed difference between 8/16gb ram/

Im wondering if this setup is what I need, I love the idea of a premium speed binned cpu as I said the only thing putting me off is theamount of mem.

If I bought the bundle and upgraded the memory after, to 16gb could it be as simple as dropping the overclock slightly ? or is there more to ti than that, and would ock offer support do you think to do this ?

From my experiences I would say yes it is likely you can run 2x8GB with a CPU above 4.6GHz, maybe have to sacrifice some mem timings. You'll probably need to ask OcUK in the customer service forum or call them for any questions concerning what they will/will not upgrade and support though.

You are basically paying for a CPU well above the average quality plus a service charge to setup plus a degree of insurance for a couple of years if it fails to meet the spec. Anything over and above that is down to you much like building a DIY system.

As mentioned in op, they will only change the memory like for like, so 2x4gb 1600/1866 only as I presume the chips are only clock binned not imc binned, though 2933mhz c12 was easy enough at 5.1ghz, as was 2400 c8.

Tonester just got one of these bundles with an m6g, he also broke 5ghz quite easily, safe to say these chips are awesome :D

Mine does 5Ghz with 1.335v. It also went straight into XMP 2600CL10 for the ram i bought, only played with the bundle for about 20 mins before putting my R3E back on the bench. Going to have a proper play when all my stuff for my build turns up, so hopefully next week.

Temps @4.6Ghz using a single 360rad and fans @7v were 48c under load what's fantastic! :D (1.3v)
3D11 Physics @4.6Ghz and 2600CL10 were about 12600, if anyone is interested.

Sorry I should have clarified, at the same time as playing games I got winamp going, as well as several websites open at the same time, as well as TeamSpeak going, I do quite a lot at the same time to be honest.

These chips at stock would chew that up and spit those programs back at you, that's nothing to them! Hell I left P95 running in the background yesterday. Totally forgot about it and my system was still as snappy as ever.

I am convinced, I wil be purchasing the kit with the Asus Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI FORMULA Intel Z87, although I could afford the Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI EXTREME Intel Z87, not sure if I would get the best from the latter.

And yes i am well aware these are premium binned cpus that is what I want.

I will be using a corsair h100i to cool the cpu and will get the Prolimatech Red Megahalems CPU Cooler for small amount unles I can get another corsair h100i instead of the options.

only a week to wait now before I can order.

Thanks all for the advice
btw I have to ask the choice of the asus boards I have listed above will I notice any diff getting the extream over the other one.

Unless you're using 3 or more gpus, not much tbh, not for the every day user anyhow.

Oh and afaik ocuk do not recommend the aio coolers on these chips, which is why its not a listed option in the cooler drop down, something about them struggling to move heat on a sustained high load.

See if they can bundle in the 240 fathom kit?

Save money by getting the Formula board, ditch the AIO H100i and go with a custom loop.
If you're gonna spend money on a binned bundle, spend money on the cooling to get that extra potential from the bundle.

Enjoy ;)

Well that is strange indeed, I actualy contacted customer pre orders and asked about the aio corsair h100i and was told it was fine to use. so that is strange indeed where did you hear that.

My question or part of it

"I currently have a Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler cooling my current cpu, would that be good enough to cool that bundle so I could tick the no cooler selected option ?

If my current water cooler is no good would the phanteks ph-TC14PE fit inside my current case with no probelms ? what is the bennifit of the phanteks ph-TC14PE over Alpenfohn K2 Mount Doom Premium CPU Cooler"

quote from 5UB
"As for the H00i this should be fine for the setup, as it is on a similar level of performance compared to the Alpenfohn K2 Mount Doom."

So now im consirned again, any official ock reply would be reasuring

And as for proper using a proper water cooling , I was using one for many years then one day it sprung a leak, and it went downhill from there, ie fittings going loose in hard to reach places, ye si did tighten it up first lol, then my d5 pump playing up. bay res leaking which no way no how i could stop. and had no replacement. i couldnt see water flowing via the bay res, ie the spin part was not moving. basicly everything that went wrong did go wrong. it was lucky i had a h100i here for my sons build, i used that stripped out the watercooling gear through it accros the floor, it took me ages to save up for the watercooling loop bit by bit i had a semi decent loop. i do not work so aquaring my pc parts take an age to save for hense going from my presnet spec to a new one, which im hopping will last a few years.

i have seen the monsoon fittings which seem to fit a lot better than others is that true. i have my radiator boxed up im sure there is somthing wrong with my pump so i would need a new pump and a new res, that res at the time cost me £60 was a waste of money, i got it as i thought it woudl be better getting one fo those so it woudl be easier to fit than putting holes in my new coolermaster case.
Anyhow the watercooling spec was.

rad was a Hardware Labs Black ICE Radiator GT Xtreme 360,
res was a EK-BAY SPIN Reservoir CSQ - Acetal, pump was a D5 Vario, cpu block was a EK Water Blocks EK-Supremacy, pump top was(first tried Bitspower D5 Mod Top V2 Extreme, Acryl Version, with the Bitspower mod kit, then i thought it was that causing problems then i went to a ek EK-D5 X-TOP CSQ - Acetal)

anyhow the price of liquid nowadays to fill a loop, ye si knwo you can use jsut distilled water ect, the truth be known i jsut cant afford to replace the parts in my watercooling setup, and if im honest i would be woried about using one now, leaks ect ect. i lost one motherboard due to it, i cant afford to replace stuff easily now
