Tell him to go for the x-oc, you simply don't get the features it offers on any other board for that price!

Water and roughly 1.33v should net you 5ghz on one of these

Even at 4.6ghz, it will be a bit better than an ivy cpu at 4.5ghz. Then you have the headroom to push for higher clocks. Heck even my mediocre 4770k @stock scores higher than my old 3770k @4.2ghz. But on mine, heat is the problem. Ive actually thought about buying one of theese bundles. Using the same mobo i have and sell off the existing kit.

Is the on board audio as good as a dedicated soundcard such as a Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 PCI-E.

Dedicated audio is usually better but it depends how much of an audiophile you are to how much difference you'll notice.

As for fathom, give scotti a nudge see if its something they can do

Ive found the onboard audio on the formula board to be woefully bad compared to my xonar DX, a card which ive found to be comparable to the D2X.

I once got told many years ago, there is no difference with a sound card and on board audio.

It's just a way to make money.

Whomever told you that unfortunately lied, although luckily good onboard these days isn't that bad.

have to agree, even a £25 asus xonar dg/x is better then 90% of onboard sound!

Ok thanks guys was deciding wether to use the onboard Audio on the Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI FORMULA or use my Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 PCI-E, was all thanks for the advice.

What Cpu paste are you guys using with this bundle?

I used the TIM provided with the waterblock, which was the Gield stuff iirc. Normally I use MX4.
