**OcUK Extreme Haswell bundle - A review!**

I realised that my chip isn't 'extreme' - i.e. not binned or de-lidded, but my comment still stands, a H100i will still be fine.

My temps anyway at the moment are about 25/27C at idle (in windows) and never go above 55/60C under load. In the hot weather recently it was getting to 64C but I would expect similar results on the extreme, maybe 70~80C under load at 5Ghz, but when I tried to push mine that high it crapped out!

And as for proper using a proper water cooling , I was using one for many years then one day it sprung a leak, and it went downhill from there, ie fittings going loose in hard to reach places, ye si did tighten it up first lol, then my d5 pump playing up. bay res leaking which no way no how i could stop. and had no replacement. i couldnt see water flowing via the bay res, ie the spin part was not moving. basicly everything that went wrong did go wrong. it was lucky i had a h100i here for my sons build, i used that stripped out the watercooling gear through it accros the floor, it took me ages to save up for the watercooling loop bit by bit i had a semi decent loop. i do not work so aquaring my pc parts take an age to save for hense going from my presnet spec to a new one, which im hopping will last a few years.

i have seen the monsoon fittings which seem to fit a lot better than others is that true. i have my radiator boxed up im sure there is somthing wrong with my pump so i would need a new pump and a new res, that res at the time cost me £60 was a waste of money, i got it as i thought it woudl be better getting one fo those so it woudl be easier to fit than putting holes in my new coolermaster case.
Anyhow the watercooling spec was.

rad was a Hardware Labs Black ICE Radiator GT Xtreme 360,
res was a EK-BAY SPIN Reservoir CSQ - Acetal, pump was a D5 Vario, cpu block was a EK Water Blocks EK-Supremacy, pump top was(first tried Bitspower D5 Mod Top V2 Extreme, Acryl Version, with the Bitspower mod kit, then i thought it was that causing problems then i went to a ek EK-D5 X-TOP CSQ - Acetal)

anyhow the price of liquid nowadays to fill a loop, ye si knwo you can use jsut distilled water ect, the truth be known i jsut cant afford to replace the parts in my watercooling setup, and if im honest i would be woried about using one now, leaks ect ect. i lost one motherboard due to it, i cant afford to replace stuff easily now

Fair enough, if money is that much of an issue though why get the extreme bundle? What will you be using your PC for if you don't mind me asking? 9 times out of 10 you wont see much benefit from a normal O/C in comparison to these extreme bundles (In terms of processing power) - its just for bragging rights, which ....with respect, if you are on a budget, I would not go for.

This was taken from another thread about the same bundle from the guy in charge of ocuk's bundles and systems....

During testing we only found a few air coolers that could cope with the temperature spikes caused by Prime 95. AIO watercoolers couldn't, the problem with the AIO cooler is that the dissipation rate on the flow rate is too low so hot fluid stays in the loop for too long, add to that the poor dissipation rate of most of the rads and what you find is that the temperatures in the fluid rise steadily but uncontrollably until the system becomes unstable.

Despite many power users not recommending prime on Haswell, we know that most users don't consider an overclock stable unless it passes prime. Therefore, we still need to cater for those users who will get the bundle and whack it on Prime. There is no doubt that these bundles will run hot, especially when primed. For even the most hardcore real life uses it'll top out at around 75C but prime causes it to spike into the mid 90s.

The reason "We recommend a good custom watercooling set-up for these bundles" is because these chips thrive under cooler conditions, a good watercooling set up can reduce the spikes from 20C to just a few degrees & this enables the CPU's to be pushed far past the 4.6GHz if you want to fiddle.

thank you pgi947 for that, it has made things worse. one ock peep saying one thing and another saying completely diff. This is indeed confusing but about what you have posted..

That post Doesn't say which AOI he is referring to, is that a 60 ? 80 100? 110 ?, or even which make of AIO cooler. was that push/pull config what fans also was he trying or using. as you can imagine it can make a vast amount of difference. Also what cpu thermal paste was he using or trying.

Oracle, thank you for your post.

Just because money is an issue doesn't mean I cant afford it, or even buy it for the bragging rights. it just means I have to save harder make sacrifices on the way to get it,a nd it also means it has to last longer, I typicly upgrade (When the wife allows me to) once a year. this is the year. I am just really cautious. I generaly make enquiries research watch you tube vids reviews ect up to a month in advance just to make sure im buying what I need to buy and I will get the best out of it. il be honest here I spend most of my time on my pc, so it has to be right. and I ofc welcome any comments sugestions about my purchses it is why I joined this great community in the first place.

But please can w ehave clarification from a ock shop peep about this please.

As for the suggestion about being able to add other coolers would be great. or other AOI coolers such as the custom ock one.

If it does turn out to be ok to use a corsair AOI h100i I might either get a new one to use for this kit and give my son the one im using atm. or get the water cooling cpu block and save once more for the rest again.

Btw what cpu thermal paste are you guys using with this bundle and what does ock supply with the kit if any?

Cheers

As I said some official clarification would be great.

Also I would like to say I will not be running prime,

I will be using my computer for heavy gaming, whilst on teamspeak whilst looking at web pages, also listening to music.

In your cs post ask for scottib or 8pack and link them to that post and see what they say :)

I have done that, if all else it will effect the warranty if you know what I mean.

I will post the reply here, I have also asked if they ok to use if they could be added to the possible bundle including the over clockers one.

to clarify, we don't recommend AIO coolers for this bundle because we know that many users don't consider their systems stable unless they've passed a "insert personal preference" hour cycle of Prime 95.

As stated before, Prime 95 causes extreme temperature spikes which mass produced AIO coolers struggle to cope with, H100i included. As it states in the description for the bundle, during any real world usage you won't experience these spikes.

Therefore, for 4.6GHz, as long as you aren't using a stress test such as Intel Burn or Prime95, the H100i would be fine, although it could be a little noisy.

1.5v will be my top end, should be enough for some decent super pi and Cinebench scores i would have thought, getting my 3930k rig split up and having my 920 as an interim rig whilst i wait for my last bits :D :D (so happy that finally clocks :p)
