OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

No rollback for me then? possibly restore from map backup? i'd not made any changes for weeks because i was busy with uni stuff :)

Sadly your fire damaged occurred during the short time lb was down so no log was made.

I had pretty big damage caused to my green house, repaired now, would people in future repair damage to other people's builds.

Server was really awful when I was on, laggy and didn't seem stable. Whats up with it?

I think there are arguments for reverting to 1.5, subject to analysis of what is causing the problems. Syncing issues? ive noticed (since 1.6) that if you dig the blocks appear behind you, and then after a short time they dissappear again...occasionally they (one or more blocks) disappear after being destroyed, though are infact still there, you can't move past them, then u back up a bit and they will reappear. This used to only be when the server was saving it's present state, though now seems happen outside of that. I took this to be a problem with my connection, though doesnt appear to be so.

noticed that it was like this prior to swapping to the new map....

hope this helps a little, not sure if this is still the case as i havent been on since just prior to last weekend..

For now I've chucked some more ram at the MC server instance and I'm also setting it to autorestart once per 6 hours.

I'm just going to check for any bukkit/plugin updates that might help fix things and then I'll restart it to apply the changes.

Will the auto restart every 6 hours warn everyone on the server?

That said if you've set it on a scheduled task to restart then make sure it's 6pm - midnight - 6am - mid day? (or just let us know when those times are :))

Unfortunately the restart doesn't support scheduling at the moment - it's 6 hours from whenever the server was restarted last :/

I'm just finishing up some extra config atm. Hopefully this should add support for logblock tool/toolblock for players.

it does pop upo saying

restarting in15 mins
5 mins
1 mins
30 seconds
restarting now

iirc.

Ok good stuff, thought perhaps if it was frenchies special restart (the one only he can do) it might not do it, so long as it does then that's all good :)

Ah that's a bit annoying, in what way does it restart? (ive never used mc server side stuff) can you not get whatever OS the server is running on to do a timed scheduled task for whatever needs restarting? (not got a clue as to what a minecraft restart entails so it could just sound like im talking out me **** :p)

This particular restart makes use of a server wrapper that allows a few simple config tweaks to be performed without too much messing about. The tool is also what allows the other admins to perform a restart on the server remotely.

I could potentially do a restart by setting up a cron to force a save and then a shutdown or kill task but I'd prefer to keep all the MC management in one place tbh :)

Ah fair enough, so what is it you do differently to what the other admins can do when the server doesn't come back up after one of their restarts? Just kill the task and start it again?

Force kill the task with kill -9 pid yeah.

Other admins can't do this as they don't have the ability to ssh into the dedi box itself (and this is something I don't really want to give out to people).

I'm not very linux savvy when it comes to user creation and limitations, but could you not make a login for your box where by the only task possible to run for that user was to kill and start the minecraft service and just give it to the trustworthy admins?

I'd only know how to do that on a windows server though :p
