OcUK Minecraft Server - Rules & Chat

Just got to uni and discovered I can't connect to the MineCraft server, probably due to the limitations of the uni network. I'm gutted. I'll continue to pay attention to the thread however and good luck with all those amazing projects, but I won't be on for another 8/9 weeks probably.

I know there is the rule about inactivity but I would appreciate it greatly if my constructions were respected in my absence. My land is the large stone tower on a hill outside spawn, I can mark it on the cartograph if this helps anyone.

Cheers,
Spaghetti_Os

Can you play through browser?

Cheers Maxi. :D

Nah, Windle, it just times out on the connection to the server. I can log onto the MineCraft user server, just not the OcUK server. I can only guess there are ports restricted. Thanks for the suggestion.

Little update on the community spawner for people who aren't on atm (garsands :p)

I got addicted & thats not good so I had to get out say no more
I have great will power :D
Can you put a statue up in the town with a sign next to it reading 'In memory of garsands he could never spell' :p oh & add some swear words to it. :D

I think it's staying as it was before the new update so no.
There is nothing to gain by updating but loads to lose if it was updated at this point in time.

Don't worry about the update just patch your files so you can play on the server running the old release.

The problem is at the moment this game is very much unfinshed there are mods that are on the server that make it a lot more fun & safer to play.
The mods do not work with the new minecraft update at the moment.
I don't think your missing anything that the update offers by playing on the server running the old game files.

I've been playing online and really enjoying it ( Still not happy with my odd looking castle so will be moving on again :p ) fairly good community. ( Had a couple of things taken from a chest and one mini drama )

What mods is the server running and what difference does it make?

I have the up to date version on my MacBook Pro, so I play a bit of single player on that when I get a bit bored / or it's laggy.

I found a nice cliff, someone raped it.

Look, I said I was sorry. Also, I altered the outside and, in my opinion, it looks at the very least better. The outside is finished, the main wall, ect., but the inside is barely started.

Sorry again for taking your mountain, I promise to help you find a new one, and then leave to keep me from ******** things up again.

-Toastyt.

No disguised swearing!

depends if he started building on it really...if you can see someones building on the top / side of the mountain, I tend to leave it alone...the whole mountain :p

Can I ask a question? If you found that you were unable to continue to play multiplayer due to theoretical increasing levels of griefing/interference/general nobishness of people as the game becomes more and more popular, and thus harder and harder to keep a lid on managing the community, would you still be able to play single player and get long term enjoyment from that? Or is it multiplayer or nothing?

I don't know what the long term plans are for the game in terms of stuff like being able to protect you gear and buildings, but from what I can see so far is that as more and more people start to play the game, being able to control what the trouble makers do will become exponentially harder unless you quite literally lock the server down to specific select people. What I'm saying is that will this game eventually kill itself if tools are not made available to properly control what people do? I am talking about non labour intensive tools rather than Admins having to step in to resolve increasing numbers of disputes.

single player works fine, in fact it usually works better than mp, but personally i find other peoples stuff/help to be the best thing about the game others disagree.

BBhere command lets you see who has changed deleted or placed any given block.

Also there are vaults on the sever that only the owner can asses.

harder unless you quite literally lock the server down to specific select people.

You mean like the server is and always has been?

And if you see tefal building somewhere leave the whole continent alone :p

Speakin g of which, i'm going to be doing some more on entrance hall tonight.

once i've made one stair it needs making into smooth stone and i have plans for the ceiling that are going to need loads of smooth stone and lava.

Also i need 6 very creative people to build a statue each. (or less people making multiple statues :p, I'm just bad at design :p)

Also going to need some column builders and some people to clean up the walls.

Anyone up for it? :)

Once this is done it'll be time to lay out the tunnels :D *insert maniacal laugh*

You can have areas 'locked' to your character only, thus making sure n one else can hack away at blocks, you can also lock chests, so only you can access / destroy them

Single player is still fun though really, it just depends if you'd rather have other people playing with you :p

Alternatively, do whitelists, and only allow people on you know / like...or again, just doa local server?

No worries with the ownership mate, may be best if it's done before 7/02/11 though just in case it causes an issue?

Shes now all yours, I have no control over the server now I can't even look at it in clanforge the new account/server No is MH44990. The IP/Port has not changed for this service.
You can add me back as a clanforge mod if you wish then I can do server restarts & look up bb logs ect when you are not around. I will leave that up to you.
Don't forget to pay the bill :D & till them a few days before if you want to lower the sever slot size.

According to the first post there are 183 people of the whitelist, and I assume this will grow and grow. I suppose it is the cynic in me that says one day someone will eventually spack out and cause untold damage before they are ejected as this seems to be the only course of action, i.e. no tools to prevent the damage, apart form this lock command, though I must say I don't recall seeing this mentioned being used anywhere in the thread so far. And of course as petty arguments increase with this number of people, hoping a sole admin can keep on top of problems is optimistic imo. Will it end up like Lord of the Flies?

IIRC, bbhere allows you to undo all the work of one player. So major griefing wouldn't be too much of a problem. Also the time it takes to destroy a block kind of limits what damage can be done (ignoring TNT).
It works well as it is, IMO.

Also, the lock thing is used on player vaults, which is where you are supposed to store your valuables to prevent stealing.

1.Two world saves are done a day so the whole server can be rolled back 12 hours.
2.mod on the server that lets you roll back just one players work/damage
3.Whitelist in place thats linked to the players forum name.
4.Other players looked out for each other.
5.Vaults in place that only the owner can enter no one can /tp to a player while they are in there vault. The vaults are made of bedrock & are designed so a player can't tip lava in side or get at any chests from the outside.

/rollback 'player' - Rolls back changes made by player since you began watching them (or since the last rollback, whichever was more recent). You'll be notified if there are no changes to be made, or if the player has no log. This will only replace blocks destroyed by the player and remove blocks placed by the player had you been watching those blocks (TNT, bedrock, water, and lava by default).
Every player on this server is being watched & every single block on this server is being watched.

Edit: mistercrabb sort of beat me to it :P

Also in the servers 4+ month history we have only had to perm ban 2 players one due to being already being banned from the OcUK Forums & the other for tipping lava over a players head.
