*** OcUK Powerlifting Totals Thread ***

Ta :D Reckon I've got another 10kg in me for 3-4 reps on the squat. Might give that a go Friday.

I had to de-load the bar during my DLs when I got 140 just so I could have 3 20kg plates either side. :o I had 1 20kg aside up to that point and just kept adding 5's and 10's until I got to 130.

Keep going buddy, some nice numbers there.

Can't wait till I can do 100KG Squats for reps, and 150KG deads for reps, and 80KG bench for reps.

Don't know about you, but we have hex plates so having 3-4 20kg plates on each side means it's less likely to roll when it you rest it on the floor between reps.

My old gym had hex plates and it used to really wind me up when doing lower weights. The bar would always move around when you reset :/ Much prefer round plates.

Nice, are you competing this year too? I assume you compete in the 83kg category?
I'd like to see where I am come summer time and then I'll perhaps compete. If I can nail bench press form I'll likely compete bench press only, which reminds me, any luck finding out about head positioning?

Just when I found the gym rat thread, I now find this. :D

SMed-------- 102.5 / 180 (B)(K) / 200 (B) -------- [87] ---- 482.5

Your squat is awesome :D

Thanks. The 180 was definitely higher than I usually squat. I usually like to go a an inch or two below parallel. I'm not even sure that 180 would get depth in a competition. But it's difficult to accurately call depth from a vid like this.

Nice lifting guys.
SMed, I'm curious why you use knee wraps? Also not keen on how you come out of the bottom of the squat. I'm too tired to go into detail right now but I'm sure ice will be along to explain things better than I can.

No particular reason I suppose. Just something I wanted to try out. I often hear it could be beneficial for long term knee health, and that kinda makes sense; not that I've ever had any major knee issues though.

But thanks for the comments, and I'm always receptive to constructive criticism. It's all about improving. :)

Yeah that's the plan, I just need to make sure I get back to 100% injury wise. I haven't heard back from the guy I asked, but I'll remind him now.

We should co-ordinate comps! Mini gym rats meet! ;)

There are a few good reasons to use knee wraps, but I've never used then myself. How much do you get out of them SMed?

Form isn't terrible by any means, but it seems like glutes give out and you dump forwards onto your quads. Possibly explained by not being used to the knee wraps.

I generally get about 10kg max out of them I reckon. When I did the 180 single, I was doing several very easy deep 160 singles without wraps, and a hard 150x5. I reckon I was good for 170 raw. I'm definitely not used to wraps, as I hardly use them.

This is a few session before the 180. It was a new PB triple at 150, without wraps.

And this was the session after that with 150x5. This was also a PB and had just followed a set of 150x4 where I failed the 5th rep, but was ****ed off and went for it again. Those are cheap neoprene knee sleeves, not wraps.

I'm explaining the background to these vids, as I'm trying to convey the message that these were at-the-limit sets, and therefore a little sloppier than I usually allow. :D

If it's in summer time there is a meet already planned for London I think :)

I've not used knee wraps but I was speaking to someone who used them for the first time and he said they had a tendency push you forward coming out of the bottom.

Really hoping to hit 200Kg on the squat at the end of this month, legs feel strong and the stretching has been doing wonders.

Of course, totally understandable for reps near your limit to be less tidy!

It is useful for identifying where your form breaks and weaknesses are though. Have you every done pull throughs? Very good for glute activation and posterior chain stregthening and stabilisation.

I was more meaning that if we both went to the same comp we'd be representing OCUK :p That and my brother would probably go, and he did used to post...

200kg is a massive milestone, best of luck mate!

I'm gonna be a pain in the arse and get another update.

Managed 3 reps at 120kg for squat, so...

Batf1nk -------- 100 / 120 / 140+ -------- [80kg] ---- 360

Im also closer to 80kg than the 79kg I thought I was (79.8kg or 176lbs)!
