Yeah that's the thing

Whenever I train with Rob, weight is never the focus. Weight goes out the window and it's making sure I get perfect form out of every rep. It does help though because when I do have my week when I go for big weights, it's helped me massively as my form is so much better

For example, with him, when I squat, I'm lucky to go over 60-70kg, but he'll make sure that at that weight I'm working just as hard, and it still hurts way more :(

Yeah which is the point he always tries to drill into me.

He always says "It's not about being able to lift heavy weights, it's about looking like you can lift them"

Which is true :)

Yup them BB mentality is all about making little weights feel heavy where as the strongman/powerlifting is about using as much muscle as possible to shift heavy weight.

Doesn't have to be heavy for it to be effective as I'm sure you know by now!

For some reason my grip is struggling at the moment and my deadlifts just aren't progressing. So need to get myself some straps

If you can avoid it, do. IMO the best way of training your grip for deadlifting is with static hangs. Load the bar in a rack with your raw deadlifting pb +20-40kg and essentially do a very small rack pull and hold it for as long as possible for reps.

Since starting my powerlifting program 3 months ago I've gone from just about being able to hold onto 180kg raw to 260+kg. I just wish my hand could do that currently!

That was from the comp that I lifted at, posted that video in gymrats too. He wasn't even trying hard on his squat and bench, if you read his log on sugden barbell he's good for a 310kg squat and 180kg bench. The judges shouldn't have failed his first squat, it was called for depth which is silly. The speed of his first deadlift is staggering. He can also run a 10.5 second 100m. I hate him :(

Trivia fact: Tom Martins Junior World Record 350kg Deadlift @ 81.9kg was powered home with Miley Cyrus' "Party In The USA" blasting in the background :p

RE the deadlift world record, apparently it doesn't stand (not sure if this is accurate) but people are saying because it was a university event and he was a non-university competitoralong with the fact that it wasn't actually drug tested. This doesn't make much sense to me if I'm honest, if its true. The only real thing which supports it as true is that the event was organised and run by my club so I'm hearing this at the gym quite often.

Even if it doesn't count as a world record its still a damn impressive lift. Does anybody know if it does actually stand as a new world record?

Oh yeah he definately will. I don't know how much longer he'll be able to stay in that weight class though, only 600g in and he was ridiculously lean, also surprisingly tall.

Yep from reading his log on sugden he's planning on moving up. Aren't the weight classes changing from next year too? Any idea what to?
