*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

Not really following you here.

30% off isn't that great because you can just wait until the game you want is on sale? But that could take months. And many games only get small discounts. Best Saber has never been on offer on Quest, while recent discounts on big games like Population: One and Until You Fall have been <10%. 30% would beat almost every "Daily Deal" since they started the promotion back up after Christmas.

Personally, I'm gutted that I've never had one of these codes. They bring a bunch of Quest games down to prices which could almost be considered reasonable :p

I think they ARE talking about the daily deals. I think it's just bad coincidence that it was after ShiWarrior's comment. :D

That's how it reads to me anyway.

Oculus sent me an £8 coupon today so I fancy trying out a multiplayer shooter on the Quest 2. I tried population one but didn't like the fact that you could fire accurately without aiming down the sights and I felt like the time to kill was way too long. The gunplay in it felt off IMO.

Which app would you guys recommend between Onward and Contractors? Or should I get In Death: Unchained instead? Or maybe one of the golf games?

Any recommendations?

I've only just looked at side quest, I thought it was just an app needed to install third party stuff. I didn't realise it was a whole platform of sorts.

I'Il look into downloading that. Other than Pavlov, what else from there is worth installing?

Doom3Quest, (you need to have Doom3, not the BFG edition, installed on your computer)
Synth Riders Demo,
Tea For God, Brilliant concept for room scale.

There are so many others. I have downloaded Gym Class, it's a basketball game that lets you dunk and shoot the ball. It's early alpha stage, but it's pretty good.

I have started to become quite interested in the quest 2 over the last few weeks... How good are these without a linked PC?

I don't think my PC will be very good for VR gaming until I upgrade so I'm trying to determine whether this is feasible as a standalone item.

Fantastic!

I'm the same, in that my PC doesn't meet the recommend requirements for most VR games, and I'm very happy with the quest 2. Works great on its own and means you have a VR headset of you ever upgrade your PC in future. There's a great library of games available for the system.

Although not using mine for a wide range of games at the moment, most my usage is standalone, but I have enjoyed the pcvr a lot too. It's absolutely worth it for the standalone only.

Thanks for responding that's great to hear! I may indeed consider it then.

@silvagti I see in your sig that you also have a PSVR, Which would you recommend if you had to compare? I know that's probably a bit difficult but I am considering the PS5. That said, the Oculus would save me some money!!

Will be interesting to see if App Lab will allow the Dr. Beef ports and Virtual Desktop. The apps have to be approved by Oculus, unlike conventially sideloaded apps.

I really like Playstation VR and I think it might actually have a better games library at this point in time than the Oculus Quest. The problem is with the PS5 now being out it's looking like the current PSVR headset is basically now an end of life platform. The ps5 doesn't fully support it out of the box so it's likely Sony won't support it going forward. I doubt we'll see any more VR titles from Sony until a PSVR 2 headset releases for the PS5.

Also the head/hand tracking on Playstation VR is really poor due to it using a single camera and light sensors. Plus you need to buy the move controllers for the full VR experience. They're expensive, the tracking is poor and they lack thumbsticks for movement.

For those reasons the Quest 2 is a the better option overall IMO.

If you already have a Playstation 4/5 and see the Playstation VR headset on sale reduced or second hand (~£100) it's still worth getting IMO though. Not at full retail price in 2021 though.
