*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

Yeah before getting out the Gorilla Glue I will email them to see if they can suggest anything. Worried that shipping is gonna be expensive as I'm in France.

Gah, my MVH headset arrived today but the top of the battery clip snapped off as soon as I put the battery in :( Looking at where it's broke, it's very flimsy so I'm not surprised. Dunno if I just got unlucky or they're weak at that point. Gonna have to try and superglue it in place, I think.

Contact him and let him know with a photo.

One of the clips which holds the strap to the headset arms had snapped on mine. The packaging is amazingly shoddy, especially considering 3D printed plastic isn't the most robust of materials. Fortunately, one missing clip doesn't appear to make much difference.

Wow, I'm super impressed. Sent MVH an email explaining the issue and included a photo. He responded immediately. That's what I call great customer service!

I had a Rift CV1 back in the day and bought Virtual Desktop for it, if I got a Quest 2 can I use this Steam version to wirelessly play PC games on the Quest 2 or will I have to buy VD again from the the Quest Store?

TIA

You need to buy VD from the Quest store - they're different products.

I got a Quest 2 yesterday and the (official!) link cable keeps disconnecting from the PC if it moves about at all when connected to the headset. The cable doesn't fall out, I need to wiggle it a bit to get it to re-connect. It disconnects playing L.A. Noir, and doing the fight scenes. It's not exactly a hyperactive game! Is this normal?

Try turning it around to see if it's a problem with cable or the port in the headset.

I've tried another cable and it still does it (but worse). The cable is properly "clicked" into place and it does it in either orientation. I had a session that time that it didn't disconnect but I didn't do anything different so it's not every 5 minutes or anything.

Potentially the motherboard/chipset/drivers etc?

Ta, but I'd argue they are the different versions of the same product - they do look identical ;)

They may look the same, but they're fundamentally different. The Quest version is a complete rewrite from the ground up, and includes the Steam and Oculus wireless streaming features which the desktop version can't support. The PC version is really just a way to bring your desktop into VR and use it to play 2D games and watch movies.

The developer has said that in retrospect he should have changed the name when bringing it to Quest, as it has caused confusion.

But anyway, the cost is tiny compared to the official hardware based wireless solutions for Vive and Oculus Rift headsets which cost hundreds, and were really tricky to setup.

How does the resolution scaling / settings work with this? I can set the resolution in the oculus desktop app (and refresh rate), I can set a resolution for Steam VR and on a game-per-game basis, and change the resolution in game for some games. And how come the desktop app lists a resolution of "1.0" as 4128*2096 and not the native resolution of the Quest 2?

VR has to render at a higher resolution from native to process for barrel distortion. A significant part of the image is discarded after rendering and warping to account for the lens distortion.
