Yep, better spending on one of the more expensive titles where you can max your discount. There's plenty of them, especially on PC.

Unfortuantely my PC isn't really up to running VR titles so gonna have to stick with something on Quest. Appreciate that it probably makes sense to buy a more expensive title give the % discount.

I was erring towards Warplanes as I like the idea of having a combat flight sim I can play on the Quest in VR.

Warplanes is fun, runs impressively smooth on the Quest 2. One of the best virtual stick controls I've used too, though you can also use thumbstick controls.

I have a 30% discount I was planning on using before it expires. Trying to decide which of these to get :-

Warplanes
Walkabout mini golf
Sniper elite

Any recommendations?
Only played Walkabout out of those and it's fantastic! Only played with my partner locally though so not sure what it would be like single player

I've had my oculus quest 2 in its box for 4 months, haven't even opened it since I'm yet to finish building my PC (have finally gotten a gpu tho), just gotta hope that when I get around to using it it isn't dead O-O

Why wait??? It's a standalone device with load of fun free stuff?
Have been using my rift CV1 recently since it's a lower res headset and does fine with my GTX 970, just didn't find the need to use the quest 2 until I finish my pc, which I planned to do around the time I bought the headset but of course GPU prices were only skyrocketing then. I also had exams at around that time so didn't really game much for a couple months.

This or I'm just lazy, idk XD

Did anyone here ever try a quest 1 outdoors?

That experience is what convinced me to buy a quest 2... Playing beatsaber and tennis and thrill of the fight in my mates garden was something completely new to me (despite previously owning a DK2, a CV1 and now having a reverb G2)

Only snag.....

I really like my quest 2 and don't regret buying it....... But the controllers will not track for me outside.

It seems what ever improvements oculus made to the touch controllers (higher tracking rate I believe) has made them far more sensitive to natural light.

Either that or the colour is simply harder to see outside. The headset tracks fine but the controllers are unusable. A real shame.

You can play outdoors - I've done it - but you can't do it in bright sunlight because as you have found, it drowns out the IR tracking LEDs on the controllers.

You need to play on an heavily overcast day, in shade, or at dusk when the sun is below the visible horizon.

As always, be ultra careful when playing outside never to let reflected or direct sunlight into the lenses even for an instant. Be super paranoid about that, as it only takes a second to irreperably burn the screens.

indeed... that was my experience as well.... infact the q1 i even found it ok in pretty bright sunlight - taking the precautions you warn about - but my Quest 2 will not do it at all..........

They have changed the way the controllers operate for Quest 2 to increase battery life. Possibly the LEDs are not as bright, or some other thing in the way they operate means that they're less tolerant of bright sunlight. But it's never really been recommended or reliable to use the Quest 1 or 2 in bright sunny conditions. In fact they warn you specifically not to use the device outside in the instructions.

This is true but the bottom line was it worked incredibly well (With the Quest 1) and despite what oculus warned is perfectly fine IF you are careful. I was just wondering if anyone with a Q2 had had more luck than me.
Am wondering if perhaps some high power batteries may help rather than my 1.2v recharables.

Have you tried in pretty overcast conditions? People say it works best then

i thought so but i will be trying again this winter... btw there is a typo in my original message that you quoted.... i meant to say it worked incredibly well with the quest 1 instead i put Q2, thus nuking my entire point!. (but i think you got what i meant!)

Yeah got what you meant, it is certainly interesting with the differences between Q1 and Q2. Assume it's how they're tracked but maybe a small amount the change between black and white.

Just bought a Quest 2 128GB. An impulse buy, not sure why... maybe because I'm so bored at home in my tiny apartment and it's not too expensive. Preorder should arrive on Monday/Tuesday.

I haven't done any gaming for years and I have never tried any sort of VR before so I'm actually getting quite excited :D. My main PC is an Intel NUC 8 (i5-8259U) so I will mostly use the Quest 2 standalone.

Busy reading through various threads here and other sites to get an idea of what it can do. Just one concern so far is battery life. Seems like around 2 hours is expected which I think is adequate but how well does the battery age? Does the battery life decrease substantially after a few months of heavy usage and is it replaceable?
