*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

I received my Quest 2 128GB a few hours ago. Wow! The visuals, the clarity and immersion are beyond what I expected. Even basic browsing and video streaming is fantastic! Audio quality is surprisingly good too from the built-in speakers.

Getting used to the navigation with the controllers will take some time. Hand tracking is weird for me, pointer is way too high to use the UI. Maybe I configured wrong. I wear contact lenses with no problem. Will try with specs later this evening.

I installed SideQuest on my PC. Couldn't connect at first even with developer mode enabled in the headset. But turns out I needed to enable it on the Oculus smartphone app as well, then it connected fine. Installed my VPN Android APK (Windscribe) and that works as well.

The only negative for me is the strap. I'm finding it really difficult to use the straps to get a comfortable fit and not blurry at the same time. But slowly figuring it out. Will probably get the elite strap or some 3rd party one as others have mentioned.

Really happy with it though. Amazing value!

Too bad I will be busy until this weekend. So no gaming until then :)

With the strap, don't do it too tight on the sides, just tight enough, and use the vertical strap to take the weight. Also, try adjusting the arms a little to angle the headset as well, to try and hit the sweetspot. Using velcro cable ties to attach a weight at the back (like a battery pack) can also make a huge difference to comfort.

Now download rec room, and join us on Monday nights, we've got a small group going, normally start around 8pm. But if there's another time you can do, there's a chance others can too.

Thanks for the tips. Will try that later. I had the side straps way too tight earlier because it kept dropping down onto my nose. So taking a break and waiting for my face to reform.

The biggest gripe I have with VR currently is that games are just not competitively priced. I appreciate there’s likely less market demand for them, but when you consider the lack of budget in the majority of VR games, I find it astonishing that so many (several year old) VR games still command such high prices.

I mainly feel this way due to a lot of games are actually very thin in content on VR. Blade and Sorcery seems to be more fleshed out only due to mod support, Pavlov/Onward/Contractors just seem lacking real PvE/single player value. Then games like Half-Life: Alyx, which are more justifying their cost, charge £40!

This is more of a whingey post than anything worthy of debate, as I understand the economics behind it. I just find it frustrating as someone who tends to play different games for short bursts but always finds myself coming back to 2D shooters (Hell Let Loose currently).

So far Lone Echo has been my most enjoyable VR experience. Boneworks would be up there but all the cool moments are too dispersed with boring segments.

Economics unfortunately. The games take a lot of work to make, for relatively low sales numbers. Developers need to eat. The Quest 2 will hopefully change that to some degree, the issue is that it will still be mainly mobile focused for now, so don't expect massive games.

The best options for larger experiences still mostly seem to be games that are made with VR in mind, rather than dedicated VR experiences.

So I've pulled the trigger on the 128GB version, aside from the link cable what are the other must have accessories?
I would say the must have is the elite strap (or equivalent third party version). I also have a vr cover facial interface which I got a bit later but I love it wouldn't say it's essential though. Welcome to the Oasis!

A lot of VR games are poor value, but the prices for Quest games at least are lower than traditional 'pancake' gaming.

AAA VR games will need AAA pricing to be profitable, and the cost of current AAA games is extortionate - £60 in many cases.

I think the upcoming RE4 VR conversion will show that there's actually a large market for re-mastering older AAA games for VR (especially on Quest 2), so hopefully we'll get some more games converted.

Completely agree with you there, some of the older games bizarrely work in VR very well - Doom 3 has been a cracking example of this. The fact it plays flawlessly within the Quest 2 headset without a PC is a testament to how effective this combination can be! The two downsides with this:
1) there's a lot of static asset/lack of VR interaction with objects.
2) I can't imagine games like the original Half-Life, where enemies can be bullet sponges, being especially good in VR.

I can't imagine enjoying those ***** that come down from the ceiling in HL being any fun. Or the tiny jumping facehuggers. I hated those in normal let alone anything else.

Just bought a Quest 2 128GB. An impulse buy, not sure why... maybe because I'm so bored at home in my tiny apartment and it's not too expensive. Preorder should arrive on Monday/Tuesday.

I haven't done any gaming for years and I have never tried any sort of VR before so I'm actually getting quite excited :D. My main PC is an Intel NUC 8 (i5-8259U) so I will mostly use the Quest 2 standalone.

Busy reading through various threads here and other sites to get an idea of what it can do. Just one concern so far is battery life. Seems like around 2 hours is expected which I think is adequate but how well does the battery age? Does the battery life decrease substantially after a few months of heavy usage and is it replaceable?

The 128GB version is on sale now, did yours come with the upgraded face foam pad?

A+++

Agree with this post, apart from the Lone Echo bit.we'll said.

The AAA VR games are way too few and old. Too many expensive demo experiences.

VR simply isn't mainstream enough for it to be worth investing. At least it wasn't. With the success of the quest 2, it's suddenly big enough to attract attention, as we can see by the studios getting involved. It takes time to develop though, so hopefully we'll start to get some big things in time.

And as mentioned, PCVR will of course struggle due to it requiring a decently powerful PC. Unless it's easy to convert Mobile to PC etc, and easily downgrade graphics and other CPU requirements, there'll be a conflict.

It feels more like a cash and grab platform now, I like MOH in VR, but hate how restricted it feels and £70 price tag is very high in my opinion. Zero Calibre is fun but needs serious work to get it polished. Vader immortal is a demo in my opinion.

PSVR should hopefully make some difference, they have Hitman III in VR and RE7 in VR. It's just the PSVR is very low res and that restricts it.
