*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

So I've just realised, that with the rugby on Amazon Prime, I can basically watch it on the equivalent of a cinema screen with my quest 2 :D.

I'm seeing lots of developer options etc, to improve resolution etc, would any of this help with amazon prime? Upping the hz might I guess, with motion?

Where are you seeing these developer options??

Don't think so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU64evvc_pE

Can use a PC or just your phone using the above video. Other bits are explained in other videos if needed.

Yeah, they are easy things to do with Sidequest. It's worth installing. It also lets you set up Virtual Desktop for streaming as well.

EDIT: Getting back to your original question. The Hz increase might make a difference in Amazon Prime, but, the texture size won't have any effect on video.

I encoded a 3D full-resolution (1080p per eye side-by-side) version of Avatar, and I am totally blown away by how good it looks in a Virtual Theater on the Quest 2. Could almost be watching it on a real movie screen. You just can't see the pixels or SDE. Only problem is it's 19gb! I think I'll have to play with the settings and see if I can reduce that a bit without sacrificing quality too much.

Also I just went back to my Index, immediately after using the Quest 2 and I noticed the SDE for the first time. It's amazing how you get used to a higher quality image, and it's only when you go back you realise the difference.

If you already have an Oculus account can you log into the quest 2 with it and not merge with Facebook til Jan 2023?

EDIT: I know new accounts have to be Facebook.

No, even Oculus account holders have to use a Facebook account, and the merge process is permanent - there's no going back to an Oculus account once merged into a Facebook account. That means you even have to use Facebook to log onto previous devices too.

How did you go about making this if you don't mind me asking :)

One thing I've discovered, we set up a new Facebook account for the Q2, but once configured I can run Virtual Desktop and Link on my PC with my old Oculus account, so no you don't have to merge accounts to keep access to an old Oculus account with rift games on it

The freeware BDMKV3D utility does the 3D SBS encoding using AVISynth. However it only works on unencrypted sources. You need paid for software to do the other half, and I won't go into what that is or where you get it, as it could be against the forum rules. :)

It'd be great if there were a way to buy these 3D movies already converted in a form you could store on your device for travelling. I've built up a collection of 3D blu-rays which have seen a new lease of life on VR headsets - it's by far the best way to view them.

If they ever decide to release a black version and get rid of the social media account requirement, Sorry but I'm never making a Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc... account, Then I'll purchase this as tech wise it seems like a bargain especially with the link functionality.

Any recommendations for a battery back to go with it? Could have been playing all night last night but the battery let me down. I've got an old chunky Anker one somewhere but it's about ten years old and I don't think it will be up for it!

Wasn't too sure if there was a minimum spec I'd be best going for?
