*** Oculus Quest 2 Owners Thread ***

It doesn't come with a link cable but a good dedicated router can get almost as good an image and keep you cable free which is brilliant.
I just ordered a 3rd party link cable 'just in case' for £33 EUR from Amazon, a third of the price of the original OEM one! Will also order an 3rd party elite strap.

Most comfortable I've got it is with a cheap rear skull cap attachment for the stock strap from Ali express, with some thin foam wrapped around, and a powerbank attached to the back. For me the single biggest comfort improvement comes from the counter weight that provides, regardless of the rest of the strap.

Oo nice
Once setup, update it

And please don't go straight into rollercoaster video or something, you'll be sick , take it easy
Hah no I will get straight into some cool apps and games! Just realized my living room is absolutely perfect for VR and Quest 2 if I use the Air Link , I have a nice sized space (2.5m x 2.5m) and can be in the middle of my surround sound speakers. I have a big power bank with cable to put in my short pocket to provide continuous juice. :D

Quest2 is arriving today... any immediate setup tips for best performance? :)

Definitely download First Steps, it's a great little intro, and an amazing first step into VR, gives you a breakdown of the controls too.

I've also sent you a referral link, if you use it before you register your quest 2 (or maybe even briefly after?) we both get £23 in store credit. Cheeky to send I know, if you don't use it I won't feel offended :D.

Make sure you have your playspace cleared before starting, try and stay away from anything that'll get hit. Including lights/lightshades. You will get lost in it first time (I reckon), so be safe with your stuff. No nearby heirlooms or TVs :D.

DO NOT EXPOSE THE LENSES TO SUNLIGHT.

Ok, so If you read the hangout thread you will know that I got my 6900XT back from RMA last Thursday.

And it's been fine so far apart from using Virtual desktop and SteamVR.

The issue is when I start Virtual desktop, then try to launch SteamVR, it will start to load SteamVR then it will stop and if I check the monitor there will be an AMD error box open saying Timeout detection error.

If I open Virtual desktop and try to launch a Steam VR game through the games tab, the game will get as far as the menu screen, but as soon as I try to play the game I will just get a black screen in the headset. But, if I check the desktop there will be the same Timeout detection error as if I tried to start Steam VR.

I have tried using Oculus Link and Airlink. Steam VR works perfectly fine with both of them. Every Game runs and plays without issue.

I can play Oculus games using Virtual desktop just fine too.

The issue is only when I try to Launch SteamVR or play any SteamVR games It will crash.

What I have tried:

Tried 3 different drivers from AMD.
Reinstalled Steam VR.
Reinstalled the Virtual streamer on the PC.
Installed Latest chipset drivers.
Installed latest Bios for my motherboard.

None of these made any difference.

Then I got the loan of my brothers 2070 Super. Ran DDU and installed the latest Nvidia drivers. Everything works perfectly.
So, I removed the 2070 Super, Ran DDU, then reinstalled the 6900XT, exact same issue. I can't launch any SteamVR games through Virtual desktop.

If anyone has any more ideas that I could try, please let me know :)

windows 11 or windows 10 ?
if 11 that's your problem I think with that card

when i launch VD, i use left controller menu button, click on games, then walkabout (for example) and it works fine for me., it launches steam VR automatically

Have you thought about sending the card back so they can check it out?

All i have to deal with after updating oculus quest it stoped working I have to find several threads and articles to solve it. Finally https://www.cputemper.com/oculus-link-black-screen/ came into my sight and thank god ir fixed the issue.

Since the "update" to Meta, on startup my Quest 2 seems to hang for 5 minutes or more with a black screen after displaying the Meta logo. Then it (eventually) carries on working normally. Hopefully will be fixed in a future update.

Well guys I earlier today has 2 hours of troubleshooting Skyrim VR to get it to work, and then around 5 hours of playing it. Once I had got it working... wow... Skyrim is crazy in VR, such a dramatically different experience! All of a sudden the perspective and feeling of being there is an absolute headfrick; I was going through the first dungeons in Bleakfall Barrows and holy moly there were a few pant-wetting moments as monsters jumped out at me! Also just walking around people and tables and items and being able to go up to them and look and pick them up like you are almost actually doing it is just mental.

I am running a Wabbajack modlist called "Tahrovin" which is "high fantasy swords and sorcery and NSFW stuff" and the physics and VR magic mods and the effects they add are just amazing. I have never before felt as much like an actual mage as when I can see my hands in front of me casting beautiful glowing spells with each hand able to cast and fire in independent directions. This is basically my nerdy dreamy come to life and this is on an 11 year old game... I can hardly imagine what Skyrim would be like if it were ported on the Unreal 5 engine with updated animation and controls. I would pay good money for that.

The graphics on the Quest 2 are 'decent' and things got better when i disabled "dynamic resolution" in Skyrim settings. However, it is still a little fuzzy and pixellatted and I would looooove 4k+ per eye. The modlist uses a lot of nice texture and model packs and items and people look really good so I can only imagine what it would look like on a really high-end cutting-edge new VR headset. Resident Evil 2, 4, 7 and 8 VR look amazing too and all of a sudden there seem to be some amazing mods coming out. I have a feeling that discovering VR is going to be expensive... :D

I am confident that in my lifetime we will see haptic body suits and photo-realistic room-scale VR. :)
