cant believe how much better the elite strap is,
deffo should have came standard with it!

found one locally'ish but had it delivered for £3.95 (lazy) came 8:30am next day

also the glasses spacer idea is spot on, perfect now happy days

Just purchased the elite strap from a highstreet store.. Had 2 in stock this morning. They had none at launch but certain ones are getting stock in.

What a difference!.. I couldnt get a decent image with the original strap as it wouldnt fit right and always had a issue with trying to hit the sweet spot.
I put in the glasses spacer (although i dont wear glasses) and fitted the strap and hit the sweet spot straight away. Feels way more comfortable and a lot easier to adjust.

I used the glasses spacer as although i dont wear glasses i felt my eyes, face were touching the lenses. I read that a lot of people were having the same issue and using the spacer helped and it does.

My Oculus Quest 2 digs into my forehead and really hurts after a while. Does the Elite Strap reduce the pressure on the forehead?

Any body know why steam vr is half the 72hz refresh rate when hooked up with the link, and how to change it?
Seems locked to 36 when i get in a game, using the dubug tool to see
Cheers

36 means you're probably reprojecting (i.e. it can't do 72hz so halves the frame rate). Use FPSVR to check.

not really dude, its always going to feel like a pair of ski googles bolted onto your face, with the ratchet system you have better adjustment thou like small clicks.
maybe look for a padded face insert?

Thanks man. That's what I was afraid of. The basic strap is fine for me in every way apart from that. If I am going to have the same problem with the Elite Strap, I might not bother and look for a more comfortable face insert like you said.

@melmac i can only speak for the original quest but an aftermarket facial interface from the likes of AMVR or VRcover made a pretty big difference to the pressure I felt on my face.

Still wasn’t like the comfort of a dedicated PCVR headset like the CV1 but a big improvement nonetheless.

Another option might be to look into modding (or waiting for) a halo style strap. Haven’t tried one personally but apparently they take pretty much all the pressure off your face.

Thanks for the info. I got the VR cover for the Civ1 and thought it was pretty good. Might be an option again.

Have you any experience with the Quest 2 Quick Fit kit?

The problem with the straps is pretty fundamental and not really fully solvable. The issue is that you want the lenses close to your eyes and to block out light, and to do that, there needs to be some horizontal force applied to the headset to pull it on to your face. That is always going to need some pressure. Ideally, we would want the bulk of the weight to be taken by the top strap, leaving minimal force to clamp the unit on your face. However, if you think about it, the clamping force needed to fully compress the padding is never going to be small.

When I tried a halo strap, whilst it took the weight off my face, it also reduced the clamping force and I didn't like that either.

Can't win really. We need direct eyeball projection.

What about the first oculus quest?

Better in 70% of things, worse in 30% of things (imo).

Pros:
Clarity massively improved over the Q1
SDE all but eliminated
Watching 1080p or better content in Skybox/Big Screen is actually very acceptable (looked awful on the Q1)
Much more processing grunt
90hz capable refresh rate
Tracking seems to be improved (anecdotally for me, no issues with Beat Saber like I would get with the Q1)
Sound is a bit better than the Q1
Q1 prescription lenses still fit (yay!)
Controllers seem more robust than the Q1

Cons:
Black levels took a hit going from OLED to IPS, could be a problem if you play lots or dark or spooky games
Controllers are a bit bigger and weightier than the Q1, which is taking time to adjust to
IPD setting much more limited, luckily I am bang on setting 3, and my wife is bang on setting 1, but I can see how it sucks for people with other IPDs
Godrays are slightly more pronounced in certain circumstances

When you first put the headset on, you get the IPD scale appear at the bottom, there appears to be more notches it can be set to from this, so maybe they will introduce a software method. Right now, being 71 and using the spacer, it still isn't ideal.
